Insurance for Japanese Import

Recently imported a 2017 HONDA VEZEL, and got it insured with AXA (paying over twice the price that we had been paying with other provider), but wanted to see if I could get insurance cheaper, our existing insurer for the other car (123.ie) said that they could not insure it as it was 'outside of their scope', and they don't have the model listed on a lot of insurance websites, and most of them don't recognise the registration number (presumably as it is a Japanese import). We wanted to add our sone as a named driver too, but was quoted over €1300.00 to do that, but it had only been €500 or so on an older car (2006) from 123.ie

Was just wondering if anyone knows who is insuring all these as there are plenty of them around (and for sale on forecourts), but it seems to be a major issue with anyone that I have tried.

Usually Axa or Allianz are best. Better to call insurance companies directly as online registration searches don’t work for some Jap imports.

Yeah, we have it with AXA at the moment, but was hoping to get a more reasonable quote as it is over twice what we had been paying on our other car.
