How serious an issue is some moss

I see people getting roofs powerhosed everywhere but my understanding was this could make matters worse

It's a cosmetic issue more-so than anything else. It can block gutters from time to time, but I don't get too worked up about it as it's not present on the front of my house, but it is on the back.

I have moss on roofs where the mortar in the ridge tiles has fallen away, but I also have a roof with no moss where the mortar has also fallen away.

Maybe what you read is more of an issue with older slate tiles rather than the new concrete tiles?

Depending on the tiles, slate type tiles can lift slightly with large lumps of moss, not a huge issue but should be removed where possible.

I would be less concerned with concrete tiles.

Power hosing roofs is never a good idea imo.

What's an example of a concrete tile , my tiles are the tiles you see everywhere

Concrete tiles are very common in Ireland. A rough guide is each tile is ridged and interlocking, rough to the touch.

My understanding is power washing is not recommended. I had my roof scrapped and then soft washed. The chemical was bio clense by Benz. Roof is still pretty clear after 3 years.

I was hoping to be able to soft wash it from a ladder using a hose and pump

Might not bother as there isn't a massive amount, mostly on the ridges

Some boy was calling round the neighbours offering to power washer and then apply sodium hypochlorite (stong bleach)

according to that Benz website who also sell sodium hypochlorite, you should not power wash or use the bleach product on a roof

My understanding is that moss will go away after it's dead without any brushing

I know in the garden the iron sulfate gets rid of the moss without any raking

Just got roof soft washed and sprayed as well as gutters done. Probably not strictly necessary but

getting both done at same time made sense and roof should be good now for up to 5 years I think.
