Closest GAA clubs

Random question, but one I was thinking about when driving a week ago - what 2 GAA clubs/club grounds are closest to each other in Ireland?

The question arose when I was driving south out of Ardee, and passed Ardee GAA on the edge of town, then Hunterstown a few mins later. Barely 90s between the grounds, google maps tells me its 1.9km. Obviously the cities will probably have a few that are closer, looks like Good Counsel and Templeogue Synge St in Dublin are about 1k apart.

So maybe its 2 questions - What rural GAA clubs in Ireland are closest to each other? What are the closest urban ones?

Roanmore and De la Salle are very close together in Waterford.

Depends if you count clubs sharing grounds. In Wexford Town, Sarsfields, Volunteers and Faythe Harriers all share Pairc Garman.

Park sharing i'd count as cheating, would need to be 2 separate pitches,/clubhouses/facilities etc.

Faughs & Judes, they appear to be right next door to each other, as are Roanmore & De La Salle!

An interesting one, Faughs don't have a football team so you could be a member of both.

However, Judes does have a Hurling team.

About 1.5km between Pat's and Claughaun in Limerick City.

In Dublin and not counting clubs co-located on Council pitches. It could be St Sylvesters( Malahide) and Naomh Mearnog ( Portmarnock). Probably 1.5km apart by road but the two back pitches are probably only separated by 50-100 metres

Vincent's and Craobh Ciarains aswell. Clontarf and Raheny would be near enough and Parnell's and O'Tooles. Finians and Fingallians are close to each other aswell.

Sarsfields and Harriers have their own complex's too, Harriers are hurling only while the other 2 clubs are football only so bit of player crossover.

This looks to be the rural leader.

The Mullingar clubs look to be about 500m apart, going by maps? Bit more for as the waterford clubs

Judes/Faughs, where are the pitches? Do they share all the Tymon pitches out the back?

So Sylvesters/Naomh Mearnog would be the closest urban club with their own facilities so far

Na Piarsaigh and Glen Rovers on Corks northside. The two club houses are within seven minutes drive of each other.

Clonmel Commercials/St Marys to Clonmel Óg is about a 3 or 4 minute drive.

Douglas and Nemo Rangers pitches in Cork have pretty much just a dual carriageway distance between them

If you draw a 3km radius from the centre of Coolock in Dublin, you would find all of the following clubs within it: Parnells, O’Tooles, Innisfails, N. Barrog, Trinity Gaels, St. Monicas, Raheny, Clontarf, Scoil Ui C. , St. Vincent’s, C. Chiarains, Whitehall C..

Way too many for an area which has a relatively small and aging population compared to west Dublin, Swords or the Tallaght region. Some of the smaller ones would be better merging and pooling the resources.

I also forgot to add that in North County Dublin you have Man o War and Round Towers Lusk near each other. Also Skerries Harps would be near Man o War who are between Lusk and Skerries. St Maurs are a bit further away.

In my rural area the neighbouring club is 2 miles away. It is the same church parish but the people go to a different primary school.

Claregalway is football only.

Turloughmore is hurling only.

It suits a lot of clubs in Galway not to be dual clubs. I’m sure closest club grounds should both play the same code to qualify for this thread

On the flip side, in my home village, taking the shortest route in kilometres to each, there are 5 GAA club grounds closer to us than our own. That has to be a record of some sort.

I actually think with backroads and a shortcut through a housing estate, there could even be a sixth.
