Checking past ownership history of a secondhand car?

Hi all,

Apologies if this is something anyone should know answer to,but can you check out who owned a car previously before buying it from a garage?......or for that matter after buying it.......and also can you check what year was it last bought in?

Maybe you get this info from the registration book but I don't think you do. My nephew is looking at buying a secondhand car which seems in good nick from a VW dealership in his county and he showed a friend (who is into cars) a picture of the car and his friend happened to reckon he actually recognised the car and the licence plate and it had been owned by a tradesman previously who wasn't known to be too gentle on vehicles.

Nephew likes the car but would like to know more about it if possible before committing to the purchase,

No you can’t find out who owned the car. You can find out the previous ownership dates by doing a history check

Thanks for the reply,will pass on that message and nephew may well do the check as it would help confirm if it’s car his friend was thinking of.
