Dividing Slatted pens

Hi Lads and lassies

I came across this was wondering if any of you have ever split up pens in a shed or halved a pen for a few culls or to separate bulls and heifer weanlings. I seen these brackets I thought they would be handy for splitting a pen if you have an RSJ with a base plate on it and use these brackets to bolt down the rsj to hang a gate.

Have any of you done something similar be handy for maybe a bull or a cull cow or two.

Yes. The RSJ is also bolted to the shed rafter. I don't think the slats would be strong enough to hold it, without being bolted to the rafter as well

That's looks like an O'Donavan engineering set up in picture I think, they're not usually connected to a rafter but with 4 of those bolts and the fixed panel on the righthand side it should be fairly solid.

Yeah have some done like this. Made some myself. Condons also do them.

No that RSJ is not connected to the roof it is free standing. Yes it is here below in this link and it is o'Donavon

How have they worked out just a free standing rsj or did you have it connected to the rafters? They just hang a gate out if it with the normal hangers was it?

Worked out the best. The homemade ones are connected to trusses alright and it would be a far better job if you could. No don’t see them on their website. They call them t bolts.

Do you have them set up permanently or are they temporary set up depending on your different needs in a year?

Permanently. Mostly bulls here and like to keep them in small groups.
