Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Fair Price for older car

    Hi,

Looking at older cars for sale. I am thinking of selling an old car and wanted opinions on what a fair price would be. I have looked up the model year etc. on carzone and the prices seem crazy to me. Are these people being unrealistic or is the second hand market really that buoyant.

Car in question is a Mercedes C180 Petrol A/T with 200K on the clock. Bought as a demonstrator from the dealer and maintained well since then, new subframe fitted by Mercedes 3 years ago.

What do people think is a fair price range for such a car?

Done deal is more realistic but many prices are still too high and not selling. You can see same cars for sale for months.

    What year is it

3 year old car 50-60% of price when new

6 year old half the price of a 3 year old so 25-30%

9 year old half the price of a 6 year old

That was a useful rule of thumb up until recently

In particular the older cars now ask proportionally more than they used to compared to anything else I seem to find

Gone are the days of the bangernomics thread was throwing up gems on boards for under 2k and the sub 5k luxobarges. Haven't seen either thread in years now

    Sorry,

Forgot to mention its quite old. Car is 2008.

The ones on Carzone are between 4 and 7K which I think is a bit steep. I want to sell my car and although I am not in a great hurry I would like to move it on at this stage

On donedeal (where it matters) Looks like asking 4k selling 3k+.

That's closer to what I was thinking. I'd be happy with that to be honest

I traded my car in earlier this year. Same aged cars where around €7k on Donedeal, when mine went up on Donedeal it was €9k and gone within a week. It was a big petrol with relatively high tax.
