Underfloor Insulation/ Suspended Timber Floor.

Anyone done this? Has it made much difference.

Am wondering is it worth it in context of the costs. Its a big enough job.

Makes a substantial difference.

We fitted PIR boards as opposed to the common mineral wool method. This was done because we installed underfloor heating and compliance requires 0.15W/m2K u-value.

The airtightness is a huge element also as the subfloor is obviously ventilated.

Re-use the existing floorboards to save cost; you'll only need to replace the first one you lift.

We did it as part of a larger rennovation so we replaced the suspended timber floor with hard core, insulation and under floor heating. It made a massive difference in how warm the house is.

I’m half thinking of doing this myself too.

I’ve a builder starting the concrete slab extension tomorrow and he will be laying new floating laminate floor throughout the ground floor of the house when the extension plus the work inside the house is done.

However we haven’t priced in doing this insulation and air tightness of suspended wooden floor, so I’m thinking I might do it myself.

I’m not too sure where to get the various barriers though and what the price would be:
