Looks like a hammy for Sparrow.

to be fair, our 9/10 combo last year was exceptionally good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

My god, that french 11 is so rapid lol. Everything he does looks a bit too fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,703 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Sparrow gone. The scrum will hurt now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭johnh6767

The French are trying to beat the Irish in the forwards which is counterintuitive, but they show they can still get through with deception

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

It seemed like he was the one giving up the penalties. However, Boyd isn't typically a THP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,158 ✭✭✭Pete_Cavan

Not sure his foot actually touched the ball with the tap!

    Gavin you beauty!

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭johnh6767

Murphy is a fantastic kicker , his defence is weak , but he is putting up the points all the same

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭johnh6767

It’s the G&G show for Ireland

  • Registered Users Posts: 241 ✭✭johnh6767

French 9’s are so special and enjoyable to watch

Two bad underthrows in the last two lineouts for Sheahan. Looks very lively around the pitch though!

Gavin and Gleeson will be huge for us this year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,553 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

McLoughlin really doesn't seem to have the top two inches

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,806 ✭✭✭Shehal

They start them as home town referee's from the beginning dont they...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,703 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Poor by our 14. We had advantage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,806 ✭✭✭Shehal

Okay France got that 3 points free of charge from the ref, hopefully they dont complain if they go on to lose the game.

11 did make a meal of that i thought. But yea, rookie mistake but it is u20s.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

That penalty on gleeson.,.what the hell was that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,806 ✭✭✭Shehal

TMO better act quickly to find a way to disallow the Irish try!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,446 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Great piece of opportunism from Murphy and then good tracking from Treacy to finish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,703 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

    Aw feck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,703 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

    Utterly fabulous win.

These lads are excellent and so well coached to boot.

Two bonus point victories over France in 24 hours. Utterly brilliant.

Well done Ireland. What a performance, and a much stiffer test than what the senior team faced last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,806 ✭✭✭Shehal

Confirm's Ireland's status as the dominant force in NH rugby!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,703 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Great result! Lots of quality moments. I would say that was deserved. Brilliant match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,541 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

The future of Rugby in Ireland is very bright. 3 quality under 20 teams in a row will surely deliver 3 or 4 gems. Gleeson is some player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 891 ✭✭✭moycullen14

Didn't think anything would top last night. That was absolutely 💯 great! Match of the weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,446 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

There's been a massive improvement in Ireland's coaching set up in the last 10 years. Started with Carolan in 2015-16 and has continued since then.

We've been producing great players for years, but the coaching staff weren't always there to get the best out of them. Under Carolan and now Murphy we're really pushing on as a formidable U20 set up.

So we could be looking at a double double (senior and U20 GS two years in a row). Would be an incredible achievement.

The Perfect Slam is beyond the U20s though (yes I want to make that a thing!).

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

I thought Boyd looked a good bit more steady than Sparrow although i'm not sure why he's at THP. Is there any chance Deay could be back soon?

Thought the pack in general was great. Gleeson and Gavin were absolutely unreal. Sheahan had a very solid game as well and must be a cert for Munster academy.

I think Murphy deserves to get a good appointment after his reign is over with the 20's..

  • Registered Users Posts: 450 ✭✭sliabh 1956

That was heroic great skill and technique against that massive french team Murphy is some coach

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭techdiver

Fantastic win by a fantastic team. Every time it looked like the momentum was slipping away they stepped it up (very much like the senior team).

The one nitpick is that as a nation our 1 glaring weakness is in the scrum. We just don't seem to be producing top class scrumaging props. Now perhaps we are prioritising mobile ball playing props at the expense of carrying a prop just for scrums like in yesteryear.

All that aside the future does look bright.

Ahh we got butchered and got away with a few others. Sparrows a poor scrummager i think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,446 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

My first time watching Alan Spicer play. He's a big lump of a fella and when he hits you you stay hit. Always a positive for a lock.

He isn't the turbo athlete that Leinster and Ireland have been selecting in recent years. But he looks good at set piece and works hard. Definitely worth persisting with. Especially as he's only 18 and qualifies for the u20's again next season.

Sparrow got eaten in a number of them. It did better than i thought it would tho.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭ulsteru20s

Both props are recent enough converts. this is a development tournament at the end of the day tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71,147 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

That was as hard and physical game as you’d see.

Great win, great heart and teamwork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭techdiver

I completely understand but the 1 weakness in both teams is exactly the same. It's no secret that we are light on props coming through in Ireland.

Anyway I don't want to take away from tonight. It was a great result and performance. The prop situation is a wider concern.
