Same price as the original panels but of course everyone is a gouger in leprechaun land.

200 is upper limit. They're taking the piss going over that.

Get everything itemised in original quotes.

    Hi folks

What are your thoughts on this quote I received which relates to my semi-detached house (with a hipped roof) in West Dublin, where our electricity usuage was 5,800kWh last year, but will be higher going forward as we have recently changed our two cars (both previously diesel) where the main car is a PHEV with a 13.8kWh battery, and the "second" car is an EV with a 64kWh battery. I already have a Zappi EV charger.

    • 3.32kWp system with estimated annual production of 2,933kWh
    • 8nr. Jolywood NIWA Pro Series JW-HD108N-415 (415W) solar panels: 6 on the main south facing roof and 2 on the east facing smaller roof. We can't fit any more due to velux windows on both roofs
    • Afore Hybrid inverter HNS5000HS (5kW)

    Subtotal before grant: €5,930

    Grant: €1,930

    Total after the grant: €4,000

I had thought about getting a battery too, but given the EV car sits outside the house quite a lot (i work from home 4 days a week), I think I will see how I get on with using the two cars to minimise exports, and further down the line if I decide to get another battery, the system will already be future proofed with the hybrid inverter.

Interested to hear people's thoughts on the cost but also on the brands of panels and inverter proposed.

    Thanks a lot

how do Trina panels compare to others? Are they good or should be avoided?

They are as good as the next panel, a lot of members here have them with no complaints. Any reputable supplier will fit quality panels.

I got 6 quotes and one company quoted €150 per extra panel. 2 of the other companies said they’d match €150 per extra panel. One had €350 per extra panel so they are all looking to make a killing. All quotes are negotiable. Play them off against each other based on quotes you receive.

A bit expensive but smaller systems usually are. I never heard of the equipment but reviews look ok, are the panels bifacial? Maybe that's why it's a bit over the guide price if they are and if so the jury is out on if they are worth the extra cost because of how close to the roof they are mounted. Use the calculator for a rough guide on prices. http://davidhunt.ie/solar/

3.44 8 jinko panels, inverter , eddi and Ber for 4400 after grant.

Worth doing or wait a year until I can put more up?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,347 ✭✭✭con747

A decent quote, the way grants are being reduced who know's what will happen in the budget. Weigh up that possibility with the extra cost of getting an installer back out to fit a few more panels which is usually expensive unless you can get someone you know to add a few more. Make sure you future proof the system by getting an inverter big enough to handle the extra panels and battery if you go down that road as well in the future.

The max grant for Domestic Solar PV Quotes in 2024 has been reduced by €2400 to €2100. While it's unclear how this change will impact quotes, a standard rule of thumb is recommended: €1.2k per 1Kwp + €1k per 2.5Kwhr battery, including VAT, after the grant is deducted.

    Got the following

    24 x 420w panels (10.08KWp system overall)

    inverter + 10kwh battery

    All installation etc

    16,600 (grant not applicable)

I think on rule of thumb pricing per KWp and the david hunt calc that its a pretty good price and the company seems by far the most professional and knowledgeable despite being the cheapest so far (even against some smaller systems).

Quote from ***** of 10,000 for 8 panels, a 5kw battery and a diverter. Is this reasonable? They said it wouldn't be possible to put more panels on the roof. They said I could get 3056kw per year from this set up. Is it worth going with only 8 panels. Only myself in the house. I was hoping that the Solar pv would go some way towards reducing the electricity costs for a range cooker and stove (Everhot),

Is that before or after grant? either way it looks exceptionally expensive if you compare with even my quote above (which I think on doing plenty of research and having other quotes also is a decent quote).

  • Registered Users Posts: 724 ✭✭✭Hannaho

It's after the grant - that is what I will have to pay after they have claimed the grant. There will only be me living in the house, so I am unsure if solar pv is worth it, and whether payback time will be too long.

    17 panel 7.35 kw with 2 5kw batteries with 5kw inverter all Jinko/huawei for E11850 after grant

Quoted for same system €15500 after grant with Eddie .

    Hi folks

See below 3 quotes (after grant) I have obtained based on installing 10 panels (6 south facing and 4 east facing), no batteries or EDDI power diverter:

Quote 1: 4.15kWp; €4,500; Cost per kWp: €1,082; Solar Panels: Jolywood NIWA Pro Series -JW-HD108N-415; Inverter: Afore 5kW Hybrid HNS5000HS

    Quote 2: 4.35kWp; €5,850; Cost per kWp: €1,345; Solar Panels: JA JAM54S31-435/LR; Inverter: Ginlong 3.6kW Solis 4G

Quote 3: 4.3kWp; €6,350; Cost per kWp: €1,477; Solar Panels: Jinko JKM430N-54HL4R-B; Inverter: Huawai Hybrid SUN2000-5KTL-L1

Quote 1 is obviously the clear winner from a cost perspective. However, what are people's thoughts on the solar panels and inverters in the 3 quotes?

Quotes 2 and 3 were obtained from companies listed in the sticky thread, but from a search of this website, there is no mention of the Quote 1 company. The "Quote 1" company seem to specialise more in commercial scale solar than domestic. This company are on SEAI's list of approved installers (but aren't they all anyway?), and appear reputable from their website (but again don't they all?), but it would have been good to have gotten feedback from people here who have had past experience with them (also I can't find any independent reviews online, which is probably beause they don't seem to overly specialise in domestic solar). The likely reason why their cost is materially lower than the other 2 quotes is because they have told me that they have applied a discount due to connections (not particularly strong) I have with them through my work. My gut is telling me that I should be ok with them, particulary as there is a work related connection. However if people here think that their proposed solar panels and inverter are significantly inferior to quotes 2 and 3, then I would think twice.

Very interested to get feedback and also suggestions on how I could do some checks on "Quote 1" company for peace of mind?

Just ran your quote through the davidhunt analyser, you are being screwed by about €3500,

Look at post #432, more than double the number of panels, 2x batteries and a Huawei inverter(dearest on market) for only slightly more than your quote. Run away and keep looking elsewhere.

Thanks a lot, I'll look into that. In the meantime it would be good to get some feedback on the 3 quotes I received

  • Registered Users Posts: 875 ✭✭✭keno-daytrader

Can you fit more panels on your roof? Lower kWp arrays will always be a bit pricier.

Also try and fit a 5kW inverter if your roof will hold more panels now or in the future. Quotes 2 and 3 seem on the very high side to me.

Obviously quote 1 is good, but you really want to be confident in the company you hire to do this.
