    just received 2 x quotes - prices are after grant of 2100 deducted

    Option 1

    18 x Jinko 435 Bifacal

    Option 2

    18 x Jinko 435 Bifacal

    Huawei 5KW Hybrid Invertor

    Huawei Quote 2 x 5KW Batteries with BMS €12500

    Adding additonal Battery costs
    Weco = €1800
    Huawei = €2400

    Eddi Option €650

    what if any is the advantage of going with Huawei over Solis ?

    No difference between them.

    They both work well, I'd be going for the cheaper option. There's almost 2 k in it.

    I got sent these as example prices on recent installations. Looks pretty on the money. For the battery systems they use a 10kw battery and are still cheaper than the other quotes with a 5kw.

    I've decided to go ahead with this quote and getting it installed in early August.

    We use about 6,500kw per annum so wondering if I should go for a second battery or not.

    Second battery will cost another 2k, What do people think?

    That looks decent enough. If getting a second battery best to get it with the install to avail of the zero vat on it.

    Anyone any experience with the ground mount tubs? I must say they are much more aesthetically pleasing than the industrial frame I've seen.

    I'll only fit 13 panels east / west on the roof. But I can fill the garden (looking at putting at least 16 but they can be all south facing). And put the inverter/ battery in the shed.

    They take up a lot of space but not too worried about that, huge chunk of garden is not in use. My main concern is the kids are still small and will 100% climb on them.

    Got a wall? I'd affix them to a wall and then you can change the angle as you want. Put them flush in winter etc. Don't know the orientation etc of your garden of course.

    Knowing my kids that would only encourage them to climb them more 🤣.

    If I want south facing at all they will have to be on the ground. Walls, and roof are all east west orientated.

    First site visit thought I'd get 11, second Installer reckons he could squeeze 13 on the roof. The risk I guess is when the lads get up there they cant fit the full 13 and I end up with a too small east west system on the roof.

    I'd go for as many as you can get up there on the main roof, and then you could suppliment that with some panels on the ground with micro-inverters. That said, you would likely be in breech of the NC6 limitations (5kw of inverter capacity) if you went that route.

    €7,800


    Second quote

    14x 445 panels 6.23 kwp Ber included

    My energy Eddie diverter

    Huawei hybrid inverter battery ready

    All fully fitted and installed

    €8780

    So obviously the first quote is much better.

    I am awaiting a third quote

    Any thought on any of the above.

    We are retired so at home a bit more during the day so I’m wondering if we need a battery.
    We also have oil heating but we have electric underfloor heating in two bathrooms and an electric shower as well as one that we use in the winter when we have hot water from the oil heating.
    Our annual usage was 5900 kWh

    We may get an EV when we change our car in a few years.

    With Huawei you are restricted to limited battery options in the future if getting one and also I think you need extra hardware to use a battery, first quote all the way. Remember that there's 0% vat on the install so if you can afford a battery get it with the installation.

    This system is much more expensive so I’m not sure why but I think it may be more hi tec in that the installer gets notified if system is not working correctly and has remote access to system.

    That was the sales pitch anyway and obviously it has battery included but overall about €3k more.
    Any thoughts on this. I’m thinking of going with the first quote and include a battery.
    I don’t want to be sorry afterwards that I did not get a battery.
    The only thought I have on the battery is that maybe by waiting a year or two battery technology will improve considerably over the next few years ??

    Had an interesting experience with one company this week. A 11.9 indicative quote offered by the office including BER and eddi.

    Then the salesman came to the house and offered me the same system without the BER or the eddi for a higher price... All the while claiming to be shaving off 500e here and 300e there. Odd, to say the least. I won't be using them anyway

    Received the following quote today, by a good stretch the best quote I've received. Looks like this is the one to go for.

    16 x 430w Jinko Solar panels Monocrystalline = 6.8 kwp system

    Should have mentioned I had applied for the grant late last year so got the €2,400 grant. Happy enough with the company as well, they'd be well known around these parts!

    Locked in and paid the deposit with the company that gave the best quote, but also showed up when they said they would and sent the quote when they said they would. That gave me lots of confidence (backed up by being recommended on here multiple times).

    The final Quote was €10,100 (after the grant €8,000)

    • 13 X 430 panels.
    • 5 kw battery
    • 1 X Change over switch to run the house off the battery during power cuts.
    • Inverter, switches, and all roof works etc.

    Installation is a little awkward. id say 30% more manhours.
