Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Using a hybrid as a company car !

    Hi,

I am looking, for work, at company cars this year for my team. Usual things like fuel cards will be provided.

I liked the idea of going green or hybrid, but I have been told that only diesel is claimable back as a company expense.

I couldn't find any hard and fast literature on it, would anyone know better than I?

Companies can't get VAT back on petrol; which is a stupid idea but is the rule. They can on diesel. Its not an expenses related thing, its the VAT on the fuelcard bills that they don't want to pay.

There are hybrid diesels now too.

You can write off petrol as an expense but you can’t claim back the VAT. At least thats what I do.

Diesel plug in hybrid would be best of both worlds but theres not many of those unless you have a big budget.

Yes but it's a very (very) short list of viable options for a company vehicle.

Yes, to be honest only diesel (or full EV as the electricity cost is also vat deductable AFAIR) suits for company car or fuel card use.

You can't claim back vat on petrol, which I assume is a legacy from way back when. With more and more PHEV being available and viable for commercial use I wonder if this will be revisited

There are BIK exemptions for electric cars, but they are dropping over next few years.

But honestly, for company cars, I hate to admit it, diesel really is the one that still works for the company.
