Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buying a van instead of a car

I am looking to get a cheap run around car for the coming 1-2 years and saw a cheap focus/auris vans and wondering if there is any issues with a non business owner using them. Noticing online they are 30% cheaper than normal ones and i will not be carrying anyone so it suits me.

Also vans are CVRT, does this remain or would it switch to NCT and would i get screwed with insurance. I assume motor tax switches back to normal as it isnt used for a business and i have to fill out a form.

Commercial vehicles need a separate no claims bonus.

Waste of time if you don’t have your own company. €100 to test them yearly. More expensive than most CO2 cars to tax. Higher tolls too.

If you need a runaround with some space for tools, animals etc. pick up a cheap people carrier or estate and drop/get rid of the back seats. Much less hassle.

You will need to get it reregistered with the revenue as a private vehicle. Then you will need to find an insurance company who will insure a commercial as a private (most won't).
