Recommend an energy logger

I'm looking for an energy logger to understand my electricity usage. This is a precursor to a potential PV installation, trying to understand how the daily pattern of usage works. At the moment, I just have cumulative figures from bills, which doesn't tell me much.

Any suggestions for a logger? I like the idea of the current clamp ones, but the logger itself still needs to be wired in, and I'm looking to DIY instead. Anything that stores (or exports) consumption vs. time should work. Even a webcam pointed at the meter display :). Have a non-smart meter in the house.

Most energy loggers such as

are essentially just a CT clamp that you wrap around one of the live/neutral at your meter box. No breaking of the wires needed. Totally DIY possible. Note there are many different monitors out there, OWL/Shelly/etc some better/worse than others. I'm sure the good folks on here can recommend a good one.

Old school of just going out at the same time twice a day (say 10am/10pm) and noting the meter usage for a week/10 days will give you a good indication of how much your are using a day.
