Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all

I am minded to try out the feasibility of putting two half doors in my door ope in my newly constructed shed. My door ope is the standard 2' 8" wide x 6' 8" high I want the split on the door to occur horizontally. Could anyone give me ideas on a proposed design please. Tks

There's loads on line https://www.barntoolbox.com/dutch-door-construction.htm is for stable half doors complete with plans (pdf bottom of page) and The Woodworker has a good article https://www.thewoodworkermag.com/making-stable-door

I have hung a few half doors and probably because no one ever taught me I always find it tricky. What I found helpful was to temporarily put a couple of batons down the back of the halves and screw them together as one (leave gap at join) so you can then hang them as one and remove the batons afterwards.

Its also perhaps easier to cut a slope at the joint of the two doors rather than a rebate but the rebate is better to my mind. You'll see from the larger stable door design the two halves are made as one then cut which I see as the easier method.
