    Hi,

wondering if anyone has bought and applied sun control window films on their windows at home. Looking to see what has worked for people and what to avoid.

    cheers,

    Nollaig

I got some 80% Silver Reflective from here https://www.coatek.ie/window-films/sun-control-window-film/

It works great, but I made a terrible job at applying it, it can be quite hard to cut properly (and I'm a reasonably competent DIYer). I used it in a office during COVID to keep out the heat and glare, worked ok for me - I was getting direct sunlight from noon through 8pm

We got our sw facing windows and skylights covered last summer. They really work well but do by their nature block out some light so in winter the rooms are darker than before. That said our bedroom used to get uncomfortably hot in the summer and this seems to have helped a good bit though we didnt get any really hot weather since they were installed, however the rooms are most definitely cooler than before. The company we used was Windeco and pricing was reasonable, they fitted the film and did a really neat job. We had Llumar Reflective Helios Dark Silver RHE 20 SI ER HPR  film installed.
