Warner Bros. Discovery will have a series for you. Today they announced the original new crime thriller series Sherlock & Daughter.

The brand-new drama stars BAFTA Award-nominated actor David Thewlis (Fargo, Landscapers, The Artful Dodger) as the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes and will air on streaming service discovery+ in the UK and Ireland later this year.

The 8 part series (60 minute episodes) will follow an older Sherlock Holmes. He’s less confident and out of his comfort zone. However the renowned detective finds himself mysteriously unable to investigate, a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest friends.

Meanwhile young American, Amelia (Blu Hunt best-known for The Originals and The Mutants) learns her missing father may be the esteemed detective, after her mother’s shocking and unexplainable murder.

Sherlock battles between his intellect and his emotion when he is confronted with this young woman claiming to be his daughter. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, Amelia proves herself essential to cracking the case as the pair work together to solve a global conspiracy, the mystery of her mother’s murder and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock’s daughter. Will she lead to his redemption?

You can’t have a series on the greatest fictional sleuth without a great villain. Dougray Scott (A Town Called Malice, Vigil, Crime) is also set to star in the series as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.

Having read the Holmes books, his having a mysterious daughter sounds highly implausible. Sounds crap to me.
