An ex Gaa player and all Ireland winner has been accused of assualting a 12 year old with a hurley after an argument. Sad story if true. I'm not here to speculate as to who it might be or what happened just surprised it hasn't been posted before.

Apparently it was a few young fellas drinking in a property under construction, they caused a lot of damage and it was the second time they had done this, the 'attacker' with the hurley is one of the investors that had to foot the bill for the previous damage and even though it was a broken arm and some other bruising, the family is now carting the child around in a wheelchair to get their payout.

I did hear about it around the time it happened. If those kids have been vandalizing his property, I can certainly understand his anger.

Yeah, but come on.

One current multiple All Star and young hurler of the year found guilty of kicking the cr** out of lad on a night out, another ex multi all star and player of the year, nay player on team of millenium, fraudulently extracting money from people are not exactly going to go away.

And we both know of some other high profile ex players that could have possible done jail time.

BTW I also know of some rugby heads that could probably have done jail but for their connections.

I don't think it's leveraged in court to the degree people think it is. Just so happens the mitigating factors are true, involved in GAA community etc etc.

No different to mitigating factors of "involved in men's shed" "involved in local youth group" "involved in giving their elderly parent home care"

I find it a bit cringey that the GAA specifically is seen as some get off clause. The truth is, nobody with a clean criminal record is going to prison for assault. Even a bad assault. It'd be a suspended sentence most likely. Unless maybe they left somebody permanently brain damaged etc.

the GAA head obviously not the sharpest tool in the box. If you are going to inflict those sorts of injuries on a 12 year old you are going to have some sort of comeback and case to answer.

that said I can appreciate his frustration.

he himself was victim to the sort of crime repeatedly that our criminal justice system both from Garda to the courts just does nothing in my experience to help or benefit the victim and the man on this occasion, snapped.

His collarbone and foot were broken, there would be doctor reports to back that up. Given the fact his collarbone was broken, it wouldn't be exactly surprising that he'd lose consciousness during the incident. So regardless of a 12 year old being an idiot, that doesn't justify a violent assault that could have killed him. You really seem to love to excuse this kind of thing.

Just a personal anecdote, a guy I played rugby with had the misfortune of getting into a fight with a garda in plain clothes, he served time, no previous record.

I guess that might be a special case
