I think they just have a habit of being lazy when they can. Every game where they needed to raise it they did.

I think that's why Waterford caught them too.

Coleman or Joyce in for Conlon for me on that team.

Ah stop. They haven't even won one all ireland and you're talking about them winning 5 in a row.

Who would have expected them to lose their first 2 games and now be in the AI final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,894 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Once they get the monkey of their back with 1 win they could go on to win a few over the next 10 years but definitely not 5 in a row. That's fantasy dreamland stuff.

That particular poster has a habit of spouting bullsh1t quite a lot, I wouldn't worry about it.

The same could be said of Clare. They seem to raise it when they have to, especially against munster opposition. Hard to see Cork hit that level of intensity 2 games in a row and Clare played well within themselves on Saturday.

Its such an intriguing contest in fairness, Cork may have the edge in terms of odds because of who they beat to get there but there's really nothing in it.

Limerick hit 14 wides to Corks 10 but it was the manner of the wides a lot of them were real energy sapper poor misses from not so difficult distances or angles. Over the years i don't remember Limerick missing so many easy chances in a whole year never mind a single game.

Hegarty and Reidy two bad wides around the 15th minute mark and to compound things Cork went up the field almost immediately to score a goal. A 5 point swing in those 2 minutes. So un-Limerick like.

Diarmuid Byrnes drops a ball into the goalkeepers hand soon after. Then a botched goal chance when Gillane really should have finished that three-on-two opportunity in the 23 minute. Then didnt even get a consolation point but a free out to Cork for overcarrying. And to make it worse Cork soon sent over a point. A four point swing.

The second half straight away more profligacy with a Byrnes wide. Around 45 minutes saw couple poor wides from O Neill followed by Limerick's second great goal chance. Other years Hegarty would have burst the net like v Kilkenny in 2022 final but Collins saved. And just like the first half the spurned goal was quickly followed up by a howitzer from Dalton (his third long range missile of the second half not often they all go over). Another four point swing.

The last 10-15 minutes Limerick were well on top scored few nice points but just when it looked like Cork were there for the taking inexplicably O Brien missed a real sitter on 69 mins followed by another good Limerick chance sent wide on 70 mins. At the very least one should have gone over to leave just the one point in it (usually Limerick would never miss either) but the fact the gap was still two Limerick had to chase a goal for the last couple minutes of injury time.

I realise this is a post with my Limerick tinted glasses on but small things were happening all throughout the game that never happened to them over the years. Little momentum shifts that went against them.

It was always going to happen some day i guess. I wanted Limerick to win and do the 5 in a row. I was disappointed for them.

Finally congrats to Cork. They brought great colour and noise to Croke Park on Sunday. It's been a long time since i saw so much red around the city from early morning on. I have a feeling there wont be many years of Dublin being a red free zone in the near future.

As a Cork supporter I am a bit concerned about the amount of scores we are letting in. We conceded 3-32 (35 scores) in the 2021 All-Ireland final against Limerick. Last Sunday we conceded only six less scores than that to them. The difference was we outscored Limerick this time and they didn't score a goal (thanks to Patrick Collins' heroics).

Even Offaly and Dublin put up big scores against us. If we had conceded a goal Limerick would almost certainly have won. I think we will put up a big score again the final and Clare will too. It will be another high-scoring shoot-out I think.

The main problem Cork have had over the last number of years is that the defence was not good enough. That problem hasn't really been addressed and it might not be addressed in the final either but we could still win the All-Ireland bizarre as that is.

I think we often had those wides and missed chances but the difference was Galway were not good enough to punish us whereas Cork sent every mistake over the bar.

The most amount of wides i remember Limerick hitting was this year against Waterford. Think they had 10 after 15 minutes or something. Waterford should have been beaten by ht. That was not the norm though. And it was a dreadful wet day.

But on big days in Croke Park or in Munster in the last 6 years (bar that Waterford game ) i dont recall so many poor wides and spurned goal chances. And your right Cork punished this profligacy got so many points from far out (Daltons three) and near the sideline that on another day would not go over as they were low perecentage shots. But they did on the day that mattered most so hats off to them.

One of the best games I can remember.

Cork V Dublin in 2013 was phenomenal too, until Ryan Dwyer got sent off. 2013 was a funny season, I always felt that Dublin team could have beaten Cork and that Galvin robbed Cork by playing for the draw. No questions about the replay though, Clare won it well.

Clare were by far the better team in the drawn game aswell. JBM was very magnanimous and accurate in interviews after the games. He said Clare were abit better both days. Great games. Seanus Harnedy was outstanding in the 2nd game. Kept Cork in it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,612 ✭✭✭MfMan

They hit a load of wides in the 2018 final also. Kept Galway in it when they should have been out of sight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭C__MC

On 2013 the Anthony Nash strike from a penalty free was utterly madness, he was literally on the goal line before be hit it. I forgot cork missed a penalty in the drawn game. Pa cronin goal was out of this world. Indeed it was well and truly the days before and s and c, all the clare forwards were extremely light. Where did conor mc grath ever go to?

That was the weight of history on their shoulders.

S+C was there well before that. Kilkenny were the early adopters and Tipp followed suit leading to the classic in 2009.

McGrath had alot of injury issues, think it was his hips.

Interestingly the Clare game in the Pairc was a 'must win' and yet Clare came out on top in a thriller!

Now, I know the red card had a huge impact but there is no doubt that Clare have the players to hurt Cork!

I'm hoping that Cork can bring the same pace and savage intensity that they did on Sunday and I think it'll be too much for Clare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,656 ✭✭✭hans aus dtschl

The red card was huge alright, the game was in the balance before that (and it was a good game too). The big questions are whether Cork can deliver again, and whether Clare will do what they're capable of. Nothing between the two as far as I'm concerned, and hopefully another good game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,537 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Oh I don't think every time Cork needs to "bring it" they actually do but I definitely think limp wins against much weaker teams makes them an "up and down team".

Technically though the game against Clare wasn't must win because they lost and survived.

The Waterford game is the only one where you would really question their performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 230 ✭✭Bot1

    True!

You'd also think it can be used to focus them mentally, as they have lost to Clare already.

    50/50 game for me.

Do Clare have another gear that they haven't shown yet??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 982 ✭✭✭Stationmaster

Not so much another gear but they have to play for longer the way they have played to date in certain games. Whether they can or not will decide the final I think. It will be very hard to see cork play as well as they did against Limerick again but, unless Clare play at their higher level for longer, then Cork won't need to hit the same heights as the last day. The inconsistency of this Clare team is what drives us, as supporters, mad but equally it's what makes them so exciting to watch when they do turn it on!

Based on that inconsistency and Cork having beaten Limerick twice this year I think it's fair that Cork are the bookies favourites. That will count for nothing on the day though. It has the ingredients to be another great final like the drawn game in 2013 was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,054 ✭✭✭slegs

Limerick bear Clare twice, Cork beat Limerick twice and Clare beat Cork. I think all that tells you is just how close all the teams in Munster are bar maybe Tipp this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 340 ✭✭Montys return

They had 10 wides in the first half against Clare in Ennis, and the opening exchanges against Tipp this year was marked by poor wides.

Been a theme all year for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,260 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Limerick had a phenomenal amount of wides against Kilkenny in 2019. I think in the 20s . Kiely referenced it at the time and I think the absolute shoot on sight was slightly adjusted from then. It's been their achilles heel . Tom Morrissey always misses the easy ones and gets the hard ones. Hegarty hits an 'unforgivable ' one every so often. Adam English and O Brien, O Connor and Hegarty ,Morrissey all had very poor wides

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,537 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

It's a free flowing team against a team who make it a real battle so it could be fun.

Will probably be very close with the only variable I can see changing that is with two teams who are not used to finals the likelihood of one choking goes up.

Were you confident of the 5 in a row at start of the year breezy? I couldn't see limerick being beaten in croke parktbh.
