I noticed the same with Cork in the earlier game, Duignan called it using experience to lean in to the opponent. Diving as rife as throwing now.

Lovely taken goal by Galvin for Clare. It's opened up the margin to 7 points. Wexford tack on a quick point in response. But Clare respond likewise, so it's back to 7.

Good points. Dublin's huge potential keeps flashing sort of sporadically.

I feel like the confidence problem is the biggest issue. Then ironing out the rough edges and getting more consistency.

9 steps!? 🤭 The ref didn't spot that, nor the commentators, nor myself.

If O'Connor stays on his feet it would only have been a free. And he could have stayed on his feet. Maybe the rule should cover any deliberate foul that stops a goal scoring opportunity, but that's not what it says currently.

I seem to be in the minority, but I thought both yellows were harsh.

Today just confirms how poor Leinster hurling is

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,573 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

All in all, between the furore of the time schedule of todays games, the flat enough atmosphere, the average enough fare on offer, it's not the greatest advert for All Ireland hurling quarter final day. Underwhelming.

Number 4 and 5 in Munster are definitely better than 1 and 3 in Leinster.

Another pair of games that you'd look forward to all week and ultimately end up disappointed. Quite common with modern hurling in my opinion

Obviously the Munster championship provides some great days and the pundits will forever talk it up . But the game outside Munster is absolutely dying . These two games have been shocking , no intensity or atmosphere.

Telling aswell that there are very few there from Wexford and Dublin

There was a Galway poster here a few weeks back hammering James Owens for (rightfully) sending Burke off v Dublin and depriving the championship of one of the best two teams in Leinster.

Galway have no excuses for finishing behind teams of this quality. Kilkenny have no problems navigating their way out of Leinster. No matter what the format they would have made the final four.

Back from Thurles. 1:15 is a ridiculous time for a championship game. Barely time for a pint beforehand! The atmosphere was flat and the game was lifeless until the last few minutes. A joke that with only 5 championship games left in the year, that slot was given.

should get rid of the requirement for it to be a goal scoring opportunity as well to give a black card. The penalty should be decided based on if it’s a goal scoring opportunity separately

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,573 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

The preliminary quarter finals need to go. They are a waste of time. Is there an argument for getting rid of the quarter finals too? Just the Leinster and Munster finalists straight into semi finals? Lack of games as it is so wouldnt get rid of them just yet. But lets give them proper time slots. Preferably Sunday at 14.00 and 16.00.

There was nothing between Clare & Wexford before O'Connor (harshly) got the line, Wexford tried hard for a while but the extra man for the majority of the game puts a gloss on it for Clare.

Had Dublin's shooting efficiency been as good as it was through most of their Leinster campaign they could well have won today.

For me, today (and all year) confirms that there's one strong team in each province and the rest are well behind. Limerick will beat Cork by 10+ points and Clare will run KK close but it'll be the same result as the last 2 years.

Criticising referees is perhaps too often done, but that game was ruined today by combination of his decisions. Ruined.

I'd say there are more hammerings in a more compact hurling championship than in the ulitarian football championship

  • Registered Users Posts: 397 ✭✭usernamethatsnotinuse

I wouldn’t consider Dublin as second best in Leinster, Wexford and Galway should be ahead. Galway red card and two injury time goals for Dublin vs wex got them here. Wexford are very inconsistent though. Red pretty much ended it today

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,573 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Rory O Connor deserves criticism. Why do that and let your whole team down just as Wexford were beginni g to get on top? It was a very poor lack of discipline.

A sending off in the modern game is very hard to recover from with the amount of movement and running required the team with 14 will always eventually run out of steam..

Hard to bet against a repeat of last years finalists now..with the same result unfortunately

Ah lads let's be honest. A poor day.

From scheduling and timing and 2 non contests. Let's be honest Dublins late flurry kids noone.

Throws and steps, throws and steps. The game isn't a good spectacle anymore barring the odd close game.

Clare have 2-28 scored. Its like basketball scoring.

How many goes have Dublin and Wexford had now at quarter finals and semi finals and lost them all. It feels like they've had 14 or 15 attempts between them in the last decade and lost them all. Maybe 2011 when Dublin won a quarter final and 2007 when Wexford won one.

    AWFUL!

And yet minimum one of these 2 guaranteed progression from Leinster every year.

2 Joe Mc teams going into the All Ireland too. The quality after the Provincials is immediately diluted and we end up with turgid games in the preliminary qf and quarter finals. The championship just deflates for a month.

Fix the handpass with the Nenagh proposal. Police the steps.

Play knockout Provincial with results making seeds and then a mixed 2 groups of 6 in the All Ireland with top 3 in each progressing. To quarterfinals and semi finals.

It can't go on like this.

Clare aren't going to win an all ireland going from the evidence so far. They make mistakes that would have you pulling your hair out with a u14 team.

Rarely do they turn down the chance to lump hopeful balls when simple off the shoulder runners are available. Constantly carrying the ball into contact when moving it on when they have the space is the right option. Shooting from range when there's far better options 20 to 30m further up the pitch.

It shows a lack of maturity that teams like KK and Limerick have.

Munster boys didn't get out of second gear, probably shows the gulf in class.

Another Limerick Kilkenny final on the cards.

After watching both quarter finals today it feels a bit strange that i think both winners today have if anything lessened their chances of winning their respective semi finals. Cork were very average while Wexfords red card has left an asterix over Clare's win. I'd say Limerick and Kilkenny are are licking their lips after watching that fare on offer today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,330 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

    A threepeat.

Have Kilkenny ever lost three AI's in a row? It's their joint record on the line and they look better than last year.

Disagree. Dublin and Wexford have proven over many years now that they are not as good as the rest.

There's a big enough sub set of data there now that proves that.

13 years since Dublin have beaten a Munster team. 8 years since Wexford have.

No county has ever lost three All Irelands in a row. Quite a few two in a row losses.
