Local Garages to Fix / Repair / Service Ev's

Hey Gang,

Anyone any idea (Wicklow area mainly) or close - of any local garages that do EV repairs & servicing.

Recently came out of warranty with my Peugeot e2008 - and had to get it towed and new 12V batt put in - sent it to peugeot garage and of course price was ridiculous, but had no choice!

So wondering if there is any garages that do repair work etc on EV's.

I know its not much good now, but literally any mechanic, or even someone relatively handy would swap out a 12V battery. I know very little about cars, but am somewhat handy and I was able to change out the 12v battery in our car in about 5 minutes.

I think one of the issues though is when the 12v battery is gone the car starts throwing some crazy sounding errors like the brakes aren't working etc so it's hard to know that's the problem!

re: 12V Battery - we are quite sick ourselves about this. We thought our car was still under warranty and hence it got towed to Peugeot - only to be told its out of warranty (its a UK import - so only gets 3years and not 5).

We were covered under insurance to be towed to local garage, but then paid e200 to get it to peugeot… so would have had to pay for it to be towed again back out - so just had to say yes! (hind sight - kicking ourselves)

We were quoted €480 on the phone, when we paid it was €430 I think - obiously majority of that was service charges… I dont have the docket with me, but can check the breakdown. But yes, ridiculous!

While ridiculous, if the worst mistake you make this year is to get your 12v changed by a dealer, I think you'll be doing ok!

Daylight robbery from Peugeot. I suppose you can be relieved it was only a 12V battery though. I think I will replace the 12V battery on the 2018 Leaf I picked up recently. Pretty sure it's the original battery in there and they tend to give up the ghost after about 5 years.

Battery is probably more than €80. Hard to find a price for them, but car batteries can be in the 100s.

Yeah to be fair batteries are very expensive now. I paid €150 yesterday for a stop/start battery for a 1.2 VW Polo from the motor factors, and that was at trade price.

Smaller non stop/start batteries are still under €100 retail price. Stop/Start basically doubles the price.

I changed the original 12v battery (€92) 2 weeks ago on a 2016 L30 when all hell broke loose with warning lights and ABS going haywire. Although Leafspy didnt report any issue with the battery, once new battery installed all issues disappeared.

€63.90 for this one. For 24kWh Leaf. Yes, 12V batteries can be expensive. My comment was in jest. The €300 to print the invoice should have made that obvious.

Breakdown is:

Lab: €210 - replace v12 Battery

SUN: Enviromental waste, nuts, bolts washers etc - €9.50

Battery - €154.86

VAT - €50.84

Total €424.90

€210 for 10 mins work, sounds ideal, maybe I should get a job there 😂

It gets better, ever since I collected it - the car wont charge fully. Keeps stopping. So charged the car the night I got home with it and it only charged to 128KM - so had terrible range anxiety when I had to go out that morning. Plugged in again when I got home and watched it. Kept checking the app for it to say "charge interrupted" - so I have to keep reconnecting it.

I did that yesterday and still didnt charge to 100%..

I may bring it back to them, and I hope and pray they cover this as part of the previous issue - as it has not worked since I got it back from them! I cant afford to pay them anymore.
