Is proof of savings and pensions requested for jobseekers allowance means test? I know that figures are requested but is actual proof requested?

They'll ask for 3 months worth of bank statements.

I don't think pensions but certainly anywhere you've cash has to be disclosed. If you have over 20k in cash you'll be refused.

If he has over €20k that will be used to deduct what he is entitled to, a deduction is made based on how much over €20k he has.

Capital	Weekly means assessed
First €20,000	Nil
Next €10,000	€1 per €1,000
Next €10,000	€2 per €1,000
Balance	€4 per €1,000
