Opening State Savings account

I am trying to open a state savings account. I submitted a paper application, but they responded saying that my passport copy has to be certified, which can be done at a post office or Garda station. They also asked me to submit a cheque My questions are:

1. Is there an easier way to open an account?

2. What kind of cheque are they looking for and what amount?

Straightforward in a Post Office. Bring the passport and copy with you. A utility bill for proof of address as well. Payslip or proof of PPSN. The website gives details of documentation required.

The cheque is make out to state saving for the amount you want to save.

Once you have a state saving product you can then purchase more online.

That's very helpful.

Could I ask if a draft and cheque are the same thing and made at a bank.? I have made drafts before but never made a cheque.

Also, do I bring this cheque to the post office?

Either or will do. I think it's made out to the NTMA and not An Post.
