Rear bike rack for Toyota Prius+

I'm looking for advice on finding a rear-mounted bike rack for a Toyota Prius+ 2012 MPV model. It's the imported model with hatchback/estate rear door for 7-seater.

I see from Saris website that Saris Bones EX3 fits that car model. However, I don't see any security or locking mechanisms for that rack, and it also says you cannot open the boot with the rack fitted!

I really like the Thule ClipOn and OutWay racks as they can be locked and the boot can be opened. However, the Thule site doesn't list the Prius model. Anyone have any experience or idea on whether this might fit? I know it's an older car model, so I wonder whether that's why they just haven't tested with it.

Would it be feasible to fit a tow bar and get a bike rack that mounts onto that?

opening/closing the boot won’t be a concern that way

Although it may be cost prohibitive unless you know someone handy

I've looked into that. That would've been my ideal solution. Unfortunately those models cannot be fitted with a towbar 😔

as for security.. i use a cable combination lockthat i secure inside the boot and it works very well.

Do those function using suction cups? Is that secure enough?

They see to be very expensive and unfortunately seem to be for fork-mounting. Thanks for the combination lock idea, I'll look into that.

Yes they are suction cups and they are VERY secure. They do other types which secure via the saddle and Handlebar, which can be mounted on the roof or tailgate of any vehicle. the "Hornet" might suit your needs: https://www.seasucker.com/collections/bike/products/hornet

There's an outfit in west Dublin (Newcastle? Rathcoole?) that fit tow hitches to EVs that are not nominally suitable for such gadgets. They fit a special ball that prevents the car being used to haul turf trailers etc., but its good for bicycle racks. I think its Malcolms Towbar Services. Investigate that if you want to chase your ideal solution a bit further.
