As of yet unknown oil spill in Irish Sea .. Several birds being found dead

Had not heard this one until it featured on RTE News this morning. Went searching, not much mention except for an Irish Times article on this yesterday.

The public are being asked NOT to handle the birds "due to the potential dangers of the unknown substances"

Ireland has no official oil spill response plan for wildlife and the KWR urges people to be supportive of the volunteers and to be vigilant.

The source of the oil spill is as of yet unknown though the coast guard did send out a helicopter yesterday

"it could be tomorrow or Saturday before they see the extent of the harmed wildlife as the affected birds are still too mobile yet to contain and are situated in inaccessible locations. "

Oil spills are not typically dealt with by navies of any country

Sealife taking an awful batin. I'm calling for an immediate ban on fishing in Irish waters for 5 years. And review it after that. Or continue on as we are and then do shocked Pikachu face when everything is dead or eaten. Who's with me lads?

at least a rule that said all vessels fishing within Irish waters must first call to port for a safety and environmental check. It’ll deter some, and give us the option to seize boats we normally couldn’t ( the ones that don’t call

Update …

Mystery still surrounds the source of oil which began affecting birds on the Co Wexford coast this week. A number of environmental commentators have suggested the possibility of a tanker washing out tanks or emptying bilge in the Irish Sea.
