Sail Rail ticket fiasco

To-day I tried to book a sail-rail ticket (Dublin-Birmingham) at Connolly booking office. Was told that IE no longer did them and should go to Ferryport. Yet I see the IE website has the following page:

This is a total disgrace, especially as we have a Green transport minister. I suppose he thinks we should ride a bike accross the Irish Sea.

Indeed, why not? But my gripe is that the Irish Rail website clearly advertised the availability of SailRail tickets at station booking offices. It even specifically mentions Connolly.

Greens seem to favour travelling by Ferry and train which allegedly cause less emissions. You might think that Eamon Ryan might be just a little bit interested in getting proper information out to the public.

Eamon Ryan doesn't run Irish Rail.

Why don't you do something constructive, and send a polite email to IR suggesting that their website might need updating.

Well, I have emailed the NTA, who appear to call the shots. Also Irish Rail is not well set up when it comes to "contact us".

As for Eamon Ryan: ministers are commonly held accountable for what goes on in their departments. They are quick enough to claim credit for even very small improvements, so they should bear ultimate responsibility for failures as well.

SailRail is a privately operated thing between Irish Rail, the ferry companies and the UK TOCs, the NTA aren't likely to have any influence.

Can't book online if you travel Stena Line - you have to ring them to book a Sail & Rail ticket. (Ireland → Britain).
