Announced today, though we knew it was on the way, this is mainly of interest to English lower league, rugby league and tennis fans and is basically the successor to the red button.

It’ll be free to existing Sky Sports subscribers on Sky Q, Stream/Glass and Now (not sure about legacy Sky+HD platforms).

Virgin I presume will have no interest in adding it.

No Sky Sports Tennis and possibly no access to this. I'd imagine people that have Sky Sports through Virgin and have access to Now might make a switch to Now.

Sky Sports+ is a new offering from Sky designed to give sports fans more choice and access to live sports at no extra cost to existing Sky Sports subscribers. Here's a breakdown of what Sky Sports+ offers:

• More Live Sports: Sky Sports+ boasts over 50% more live sports than before, including extensive coverage of the EFL (English Football League), ATP and WTA tennis tours, US Open, PGA Tour, men's Super League rugby and more.
• Launch Date: Sky Sports+ launched in August 2024.
• Access: If you're a Sky Sports subscriber, you don't need to do anything extra. Sky Sports+ will be integrated into your existing Sky experience across Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Q and NOW.
• New Features:
  • Sky Sports App Enhancements: The Sky Sports app will have features like live pause and rewind, and a recap feature for all EFL games.
  • Improved Scores Section: The app will have an improved scores section with offer fixtures, live scores and an extended view beyond the usual seven-day football calendar.

It seems to be strictly limited to first party Sky (inc Now TV) customers for now, alright. Another nail in the coffin of wholesale access to Sky Sports after eir and Vodafone moved to pointing their customers in the direction of Now if they want Sky Sports.

One thing is clear, if you haven't got good broadband and you like English lower league football (and the Premier League from August 2025) you're going to miss out on an awful lot with only a Sky+HD box from next season.
