Stressful waiting so long for these competitions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭MaryKaye79

no point to stress about it, unless you’re in first batch you may not hear whether you have passed shortlisting until next year

    good luck

Just as an FYI for anyone who gets an email saying they didn’t make the next stage after shortlisting based off their form, it may be worth appealing the decision. My husband is currently partaking in another competition which is using the new framework and web based form. He got an email saying his form didn’t display enough evidence of a particular competency under one of the essential criteria. He appealed it as he was certain he did. They subsequently reviewed his form and he was reinstated in to the competition.
Human error in assessing the form could have cost him his place. So just be mindful of that when you get results

Could someone please confirm whether applicants are notified when they progress to the Shortlisting Stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭Gillouise

In my experience of the 2022 comp there was no message to say that shortlisting had commenced, only the following message through my public jobs account:

'I refer to Stage 2 Shortlisting for the above named competition. I regret to inform you that you were not successful on this occasion.

A shortlisting board was set up by the Public Appointments Service where they examined and assessed the applications received against the agreed shortlisting criteria.

In order to be deemed successful, you were required to reach the qualifying standard in each area. '

Sorry you didn't get through but that's good to know, one less stage to be watching out and waiting for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Mr.Jim

I think the results will be tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 prin2023

Id imagine they are still going through the application forms.. could be another week or so? Who knows, nearly regret going for it at this stage. While I would love to be a HEO, I dont enjoy the stress of interview prep in the lead up.

I think that is part of the whole experience at this stage!! The test of endurance 😂😂

Hey All, just enquiring for a friend. She's OOM 1400 after the last stage, waiting for interview now. Has anyone been called yet? Thanks 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,555 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

They haven't and at 1400 she could be waiting a while 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,555 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Don't stress over it. It's like that meme of "in 'remote place', you don't eat food.. food eats you!"

In PAS, you don't get HEO. HEO gets you.

Just put it to the back of your mind, get on with your life and everything will fall into place in due course. Just like the civil service.

Also for those outside of Dublin, prepare to wait even longer. From the last competition thread I believe it was November before other counties began getting their applications reviewed and even later for some of the counties with less opportunities.

I'm in a county where I'd be surprised to hear anything before Christmas so I'm putting it out of my head for now.

I email PAS today to try get more info on dates for shortlsiting in Dublin and they replied: "Shortlisting is currently taking place and at present we will be shortlisting to order up to and including the order of merit of 318 from Dublin"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 560 ✭✭✭jules86

Last time there was a panel in place outside Dublin, I believe there is currently no panels in place so I would expect it to be quicker

I just got shortlisting results, outside Dublin. I was successful thankfully went from no 2 in my county to no 1 now

Just got my results for Dublin there, wasn’t that confident on my form but thankfully got shortlisted.

I was shortlisted, no 4 in my chosen county (not Dublin).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Aabbccdd

did they confirm 318 were taken for shortlisting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Aabbccdd

roughly how many places did shortlisting drop you on OOM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭lucat

Jesus I only made it by the skin of my teeth so. And now I'm shortlisted for my chosen county. Makes you wonder how many really suitable people are being knocked out by these tests

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 159 ✭✭EarlyStorms

Roughly about half, I can see a lot not being shortlisted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭lucat

It's because there might be 2 or 3 people on the same spot in the OOM. It's not a standard waiting-list in that way.

I went from 160's down to 20's for Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 truespark

Congratulations to all shortlisted. Anyone know what sort of wait before they start interviewing shortlisted candidates in Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 Eoin2231

Went from low 300s to mid/high 100s. Looks like probably half of people didn't make it through shortlisting phase.

Anyone know based on previous HEO competitions, when will Batch 2 Dublin be notified if theyve been succesful in the shortlisting?

Mine is even more drastic! To give an approximation, double your 160 and half your 20. That's why I think so many suitable people are being knocked out by tests that are irrelevant to the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40 MozMael

was in the low 300s but looks like I just missed the shortlisting. ah well!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,926 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Congrats to all that made it - I'll just ponder on the long wait for batch 2 for the bad news

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 Lultam

Made it into the 10s for Dublin, delighted 😁

Was chatting to my PO after I got the results and they mentioned that they hadn't seen any emails around looking for panel members for it yet so we could be waiting a while for the start of batch 1 of the interviews...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Flaker

i went from mid 200s (actually might be late 200s i cant remember 😆) to 70s. I cant quite believe it. I was sure i wouldnt get this far. And honestly, whole not horrible my scores arent really brilliant either. Still, im not complaing!

Is it just straight to interview / presentation now? I was talking to a few HEOs who had to do 2 sets of interviews - pre-recorded as another filter stage and then live interviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭JennyZ

Congrats all and thanks for the updates. I'm in 600's for Dublin could be waiting a while if ever but appreciate the updates being posted here :) best of luck with interviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 475 ✭✭eroc79

Could be a lot of people on 318 so more likely taking a bigger number

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭furrybones

    Congratulations!!

Agreed that so many suitable people will be knocked out, but there will also be many unsuitable for the role who will be successful. It's the nature of the beast.

Did anyone hear about not getting short listed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 560 ✭✭✭jules86

That was 2020, no shortlisting that year I believe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 475 ✭✭eroc79

I've gotten no message (outside Dublin). Going to take that as a bad sign. Well done to everyone who has gotten moved on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭furrybones

They may not have started shortlisting for your county yet.

Did people get it outside of Dublin yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭Flaker

I'm in SW and they are also running a HEO comp. There were prerecorded interview thingys for that but I think that was in lieu of the tests we did. I actually failed that because I didn't talk enough about what I WOULD do as a HEO. Hard to do in 2 minutes or so with all the other stuff you have to try and say. I was also dying sick with a chest infection and kept coughing. It really wasn't meant to be 😄 Not too sad over it as I'd like to move department if possible.

I don't remember prerecorded interviews being mentioned anywhere in this comp though. God, have we not been through enough?? 😆😆😆

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,926 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Pretty sure in the prep info it says pre-recorded interview followed by presentation and questions/real interview

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 monahk10

Yes got email today didn't make shortlist, wasn't expecting to because I knew I didn't put enough information on the form

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭JennyZ

No not in this competition, thankfully as far as I am aware. Those recorded 2 minute sessions were brought in during Covid times, baffled that they are doing those in internal competions in lieu of assessments.
