Waching BBC news and despairing about human kind. First the CoE Bishop beating the shyte out of young lads then the paedo from Newry . I was sosheltered growing up . I have my father and mother to thank for keeping me out of a lot of tuff growing up

I wasnt sheltered so I get all the bad stuff going on. Apparently I developed resilience from childhood. Obstacles on the road are good for you. Once again, apparently. I'm no expert.

For now it's leaba time. A belly full off my homemade curry earlier. Nice and snug under the duvet of heat.

Got a standing ticket to see Nick Cave tonight. I know some of his songs ... but time to cram the setlist 😁😁😁

Homeside here, at the end of Schrödinger’s day, no worry, no cats were harmed in the process 😉

It was equally productive and positive as well as lazy and disheartening. At least I have my foldable back from the repair centre and some shoes for Norway. Needed too, as the temperatures in Bergen will dip below freezing the day I land there. Ironically, the North Cape will actually be warmer 😶🙃

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,281 ✭✭✭✭Grandeeod

A wee bit cold out. I hate to admit it and I don't know what got into me but I watched a Christmas movie tonight.😱 In the leaba and well warm. The TV is off. Mrs Gs orders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,842 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

I watched "Meet Me Next Christmas" the other day on Netflix 🎄 😏

Wasn't great at first and was a bit annoying throughout but it turned out to be really sweet in the end.

Basically about how the universe was giving lots of signs to bring the destined couple together. & then they lived happily ever after 🤗😆

My body clock loves mornings, 530am and I’m wide awake. Won’t get home until tomorrow as there are no airline seats available.

@thomil what do you know about Munich? As a tour guide, what should I show people? Limited beer allowed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,150 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

Oh so much warmer this morning thank God! Thought I'd die of the cold yesterday, it just crept up and I wasn't ready for it.

I've been to Munich, but it did mostly consist of beers and day trips out of it. Great beer, hate the food

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,532 ✭✭✭thomil

The last time I was in Munich, I ended up with a busted knee that would need surgery a few months later, so I might not be the best source. Also, I’m originally from Hamburg, and us northerners usually have nothing but derision for Munich. Just wanted together get the disclaimers out of the way 😉

Having said that, Munich is an amazing city for sightseeing, even sober 😉. I hope you like food though, Munich is foodie heaven! For starters, there’s the Altstadt, the old town, containing the Viktualienmarkt, a centuries old open air farmers market, the Schrannenhalle, a reconstructed grain store and indoor market right next door, as well as numerous historic buildings such as the Frauenkirche or the Isartor, one of the historic city gates of Munich. A little to the North of the city is the “Münchener Residenz”, the former home of the House of Wittelsbach, the Bavarian royal family, nowadays a museum. In that same area is the Alte Pinakothek, another former royal building, now turned into an art gallery. In the real, the area north of the old town around Odeonsplatz has a lot of 18th and 19th century representative architecture, as that used to be where all the ministries and court offices of the Kingdom of Bavaria were located, and where a lot of the state ministries of the state of Bavaria are housed nowadays.

Just east of the Isartor is the “Museumsinsel” an island in the river Isar that contains a number of museums that are worth checking out. The Deutsches Museum is supposed to have a pretty good aviation section. I don’t recommend the Englisher Garten, a large city park, or the Isarufer, the banks of the river Isar,. Both are beautiful, but not in the middle of November. Also, I recommend staying away from Theresienwiese, that’s where the Oktoberfest takes place every year.

Further outside the cities are a number of royal palaces, namely Nymphenburg Palace to the west and Schleißheim Palace. The latter is right next door to the old Oberschleißheim airfield, which now houses most of the aircraft collection of the Deutsches Museum. Nymphenburg has a tram stop right in front of it, but Schleißheim is about about a twenty minute walk from the train station at Oberschleißheim.

If you’re flying in commercial, I highly recommend hitting up the tourist information at the airport and getting yourself a Munich Card or a Munich Pass, which will not only get you free travel on Munich’s Public Transport lines, but also discounts or free entry to numerous attractions. Speaking of public transport, there’s city is covered by a spider’s web of suburban commuter (S-Bahn), underground (U-Bahn), as well as tram and bus lines, whilst the old town and surrounding areas are within easy walking distance of each other. Finally, Munich Airport is quite a ways away from the city centre, so taxi rides might be expensive. There’s a 24/7 S-Bahn line that runs straight into the old town transit hubs at Stachus and Marienplatz from the airport though, and I’d recommend using that. Also, Munich Airport, especially Terminal 1, is designed pretty poorly. Be ready to do a LOT of walking there!

That’s all I could think off straight of the bat. Hope it helped you a little.

How'd you get on last night @Gremlinertia at Nick Cave. I was right up at the front and even got to shake his hand. This is from someone who pretty much knew one of his songs this time yesterday morning. 😁 Excellent concert, wrecked now. I have some pics on the gig channel. This was was the sky last night ...

Mrs G also held his hand, he was phenomenal, bonus points for a member of Radiohead on stage! I'm utterly shattered now but worth every minute

Just back from the pub, met some good friends and former colleagues. I’ve had more beers in the last four hours than I had in the previous four months (not a high bar to clear, admittedly), but it was great to see the gang again. And to be reminded of all the sh*t I don’t have to deal with anymore… 😏

Now to get some winter boots in my size and sea sickness tablets tomorrow, and I’m ready to go!

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

I can't believe it. Mrs G started Oliver in the leaba. Not sure I will make it through. Very tired. Up since six. Gotta do a paint job around the tech desk tomorrow. Anyway, it's a fine life!

@thomil wow, thanks for the report, for some bizarre reason they have put us in an airport hotel which makes things rather awkward. Will probably take the train downtown and start from there.

Following day we jump over to Warsaw and drive 3 hours north.

Following day, drive myself back here in a shiny newly painted machine.

I am so happy for you. Between work and health you've been through it, enjoy your trip of a lifetime

Sounds like a game plan. Both the S1 sand S8 S-Bahn lines will take you directly to Marienplatz, right in the heart of the old town. Out of curiosity, which hotel did they put you in? The Hilton?

Thank you so much 🫂 The legs are still a bit shaky, but I’m getting there!

Homeside here, just back from therapy and a failed attempt to get some winter boots. Therapy is beginning to show some effects, but it’s still a long road…(getting from there to here… 🎼🎶🎵 gotta trigger the Star Trek fans here 😏)

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

can anyone explain the logic behind this, it’s apparently a €1.5 million PHEV with a V12 engine.

and of course it was delivered without the charging cable 😂😂

Tech desk was a mess. A long day. A really long day. A combo of cleaning, treating and a plasterer. All good now or for now. Winter will tell the tale.

    Beers and rugby

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,281 ✭✭✭✭Grandeeod

Jaws 2 for the craic! In the leaba. The long wait for plaster to dry and the bill. I'm in the wrong trade. The rugby was dismal.

Sofaside still, off to bed shortly way too late...

...as I need to be up at 8.30am tomorrow morning to get to my fourth Dickie Dip - along with several hundred other brave men taking the icy plunge in the Irish Sea in our dickie bows and birthday suits. 😁🥶🌊🌊

A worthy endeavour to raise funds for prostate cancer care. Wish me luck Wherers! 👍
