Austria and Vienna is about a 2 hour train journey, Vienna is expensive but beautiful and very compact to walk around

Bratislava is two and a half hours by train, and fairly cheap. UFO tower worth a visit.

I spent a week in Vienna for work and got the train to Budapest over the weekend. The was a need to get ticket validated to go between Hungary and Austria but that’s 12+ years ago so prob less of an issue! Trains were reasonable, Vienna is very compact to walk around and the Main Street near Stephanplatz cathederal is beautiful.

Great galleries and coffee culture vibe too.

Slovakia:Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is just a short train ride from Budapest. It's a charming city with a beautiful historic center, a medieval castle, and a great selection of restaurants and bars.

Austria:Vienna, the capital of Austria, is a bit further away but still doable for a day trip. It's a world-famous city with stunning architecture, world-class museums, and a rich musical heritage.

Slovenia:Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is a charming city with a medieval castle, a lively central market, and a beautiful riverfront setting. It's a bit further away than the other options on this list, but it's worth the trip if you have the time.
