I will be very disappointed if Max can’t pass George.

    More **** talk from Ted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 717 ✭✭✭ricimaki

The chicane after the tunnel needs to be changed/removed, or the cars made a lot smaller.

Or, drop the Monaco GP completely….

Nice to hear the emotion from Charles there, had the pace all weekend, a popular winner. Even worse race than normal, we can thank KMag for that. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,412 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Yes that was pretty bad. Good for Leclerc to get a win here, unlike Damon

Wonder did Russel like this tyre saving race and strategy 😄 possibly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,768 ✭✭✭oceanman

great job by leclerc, controlled the race from start to finish.

**** race but fantastic to see Leclerc win his home race. On to indycar now for an exciting race hopefully

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,352 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

I'd be against taking Monaco off the calendar, but maybe chuck it as the last race and treat it like the last stage of the Tour De France.

Delighted for Charles all the same.

Big drop of points for Red Bull this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,394 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

    Even Prince Albert is emotional.

Delighted for Piastri too, nice clean weekend for a change.

I’d say there’ll be the mother of all free bars tonight in Monaco.

I'd say Prince Albert is good craic on a night out

Haha, Prince Albert getting involved in the champagne spraying

Hope Ferrari crack on and take a few more wins this season. Bit of nostalgia but associate Ferrari success with some good F1 years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,807 ✭✭✭CFlat

How boring was that but delighted for Charles. Someone must have left an onion beside me when he was talking about his dad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,904 ✭✭✭✭klose

Sucks to be that guy that doesn’t like Piastri for leaving a dusted Alpine team for Mcalren, another P2 for him today, a win can’t be too far off at the rate he’s going.

Never got the hype surrounding this race. As an actual race it’s next to useless. Spa in Belgium is always the favourite one for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭amacca

Monaco isnt the problem imo...it should be possible to make the racing more like racing without having to remove racetracks...

Just watched the race on C4. Obviously incredibly boring, but I don't care today, delighted for LeClerc. Did what he needed to do, got the job done.

Hopefully Ferrari can push on. Max will be back to the front with McLaren in the mix too, great to see it.

Spa can be very boring if there's no unpredictable weather. Sliverstone has had the best races the last few years interestingly enough.

I missed the race but it sounded as boring as usual. At some stage they will have to change either the track or the format of this GP.

Another boring Monaco GP, basically won in quali.

    Delighted for Le Clerc though.

I disagree. I think Monaco should be the very first race of the season. If you think of it the cars only get faster as the season goes on and then they have to slow down for Monaco. Put it as the first race makes sense.

I missed the race but it sounded as boring as usual. At some stage they will have to change either the track or the format of this GP.

Or the time of the season that it is on. Like I said above make Monaco the first race of the season that would be perfect.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Ironic that someone who moans about how boring most races are, wants to keep the most boring race on the calendar.

Makes no odds if it's first or last, it's a crap race. Qualifying is the only interesting part of it generally.

There isn't one race that's an absolute classic Every Single Year. Last year's Silverstone for example was a dull affair. A points scoring time trial makes a change that's welcome every now and then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭Jacovs

Absolute load of bollix. I missed the race due to other commitments. Avoided social media and news sites all day. Stayed up till 22:30 because tv schedule showed the Monaco F1 highlites would be on. But no, Indy 500 on while the programming still shows it should be F1. So now im going to read this thread from the start to at least get some sort of running commentary. Still dont know the results as I type this.

Just watched race on catch up. That was a dull race. Great to see Leclerc win though.

Am I going mad, or did the top 10 finish as they started?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 440 ✭✭Ted222

Race was devoid of thrills alright but it was still interesting in terms of the strategies adopted by the different teams.

It remains the most glamorous GP and the one all the drivers want to win so I don’t think it’s going to move from its early summer schedule any time soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭elperello

First race too early in the year for the Cote d'Azur.

Can't move the event to another time because all the infrastructure on the main straight is temporary and needs to be used for 3 separate events. The Formula E race, the Classic Meet and the F1 weekend. So basically it gets built, gets left up for just over a month and then gets broken down again until next year.

    What's the Cote d'Azur?

"Ironic that someone who moans about how boring most races are, wants to keep the most boring race on the calendar."

I never moan about races being boring often. There is other people in here who moan about it a lot more than me.

    I love F1.

Makes no odds if it's first or last, it's a crap race. Qualifying is the only interesting part of it generally

Actually according to another post above it does.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Monaco lap times have pretty much dropped by five seconds per decade since the 70s, with short straights it's at a point where no one car can be proportionally fast enough to outpace the other here.

On the flip side it's nice to see a qualifying that matters. How many times has Charles started ahead of Max when you just knew it to be ceremonial as the RB will stroll home on race pace

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,277 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Sergio Perez, while the accident wasn't his fault, the Street Racer specialist qualifying so low he was down with the Haas's to begin with was. He's now dropped to 4th in the standings and Ferrari are only 24 points behind Red Bull after 8 rounds. Riccardo isn't faring much better at V-caRB so maybe it's time to just put Tsnouda in the Red Bull and Checo/ Lawson in the junior team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,543 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Can't see them putting Tsnouda in senior team as they moving on from honda.

It Pains me to say it but Ricciardo is just a seat blocker at this stage. Not getting the job done. It's very odd but results don't lie.

Put lawson in ricciardo seat now and move him up to redbull for 2025 if he looks good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭Jacovs

I did then. Suppose after the first lap there was not much to show anyways.

    5th

Also, happy for Albon to get Williams' first points of the season, after a bunch of very tough race weekends for the team.

And I missed Gunther's reaction (I know he isnt there anymore, but miss him being there) at Haas when both their cars got taken out. Wouldve been gold. "**** hell".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

One again another crap Monaco race. Why on earth this race is on the calender still is beyond me. 1 overtake i think in the whole race. That's right. 1. Purposely recorded it and and stuck it on after it finished to allow me to fast forward pretty much most of the race.

Anyway, delighted for Charles. I fully expect normal service to resume in Canada and Max to stamp is authority. With a bit of luck anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,568 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

There was definitely more than 1. Stroll went past Zhou and Sargent, and Bottas had 1 overtake also. But still rubbish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Must have missed them. I honestly can't think of a reason this race is still on the calender.

If they insist on having this race then revamp it. Maybe say drivers must use all 3 choice of tyres. Or instead of the race, change it up to a quali type style of race.

Anyway, thankfully that shitshow is done with and we can get back to normal service. I'm not saying their won't be other **** races throughout the year, there will be. But at least we'll get to see some more action.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,904 ✭✭✭✭klose

The race layout itself is literally impossible to change or am I wrong? Unless you removed the chicane out of the tunnel and widened the track there maybe you could get overtakes there?

Anyways, it’s never gonna leave, too much money on display there, it’s a showcase worldwide for F1.

1 shot qualifying and mandatory two stops would be good ideas, but that’s them publicly admitting the race itself is a busted flush and needs bells and whistles to make it somewhat interesting.
