One to watch out for folks as this will be apparently a 3-year review with no doubt the shte cannon aimed at us hunters as well.

Public consultations one wonders do they mean

"To give a sense of particpating in our democracy,we are letting the great unwashed participate in supposedly influencing decisions by precisely worded or utterly ambigious questions depending on need and departmental policy by the interweb thingy,to give us a result that justifys our future policies if the answers don't suit us We'll ignore our own questionares and impliment OUR policies anyway."

Meh, Tierney has been on about this since the early '00s, along with his motley crew of soap dodgers who make up the Hunt Sabs here. Even his letter is almost a recycled piece he peddled in 2007. Pay him no heed and give them no publicity oxygen and like an irritating heat rash they'll go away by themselves yet again.

Reading and updating as I go, so here goes…….

Calling the public to have their say, absolutely, just lets hope its not a tick box exercise like last time where most of the questions were biased/skewed in that any answer given could be read in all manner of ways.

Ok, big change here from last year, written submissions accepted and should be limited to 5,000 words. Good stuff but lets hope all such submissions are included, read and considered.

Just on Malcolm noonan,I've met the man and had a good chat with him and anyone shooting deer should comfortable in knowing he wants a lot more deer shot,same with grey squirrel and mink he wants those gone or that's what he told me and I'll take him at face value.

Other shooting like game birds he was non committal,same with fox shooting bar where it was needed for protection of livestock and listed ground nesting birds.But he's in a party that has strong opinions to stop or at least make hunting impossible so when he's gone who knows what changes.

Now with the above I'm not pro or anti Malcolm as it was only the once I met him so I could of been fed porkies.

But with regards the state having a good record on wildlife protection or enforcement just look at phoenix park and how it's crawling with grey squirrels.By right the rangers should be out with air rifles and cages catching and killing everyone of them but because the great Irish public would go insane I'm not sure they do.Just look at when a few deer have to be culled and the nonsense that it creates .

Letting everyone have a say in legislation who has no idea about wildlife conservation bar seeing a few wildlife films is a recipe for disaster.

Similar to the Phoenix Park -

I live very close to Tymon Park in South Dublin - a wildlife haven, of over 300 acres, on each side of the M50, with woodlands, green areas and ponds…all within easy access of the public.

Every evening, at dusk, 70-80 magpies, or more, can be seen on the green pitches areas, before roosting for the night.

Similarly, on any evening 70-80 greycrows, or more, sometimes hundreds, can be seen on the green pitches areas before roosting for the night at the south end of the park.

There are also lots of grey squirrels, rabbits, rats and foxes in the park and a few deer.

No vermin control is visible.

Nature seems to be left to take care of itself.

I have seen, on numerous occasions, a female duck trying to protect her new brood of freshly hatched ducklings, which are snatched up within minutes by gulls and greycrows.

How any duck or songbird fledglings reach maturity there always amazes me.
