A3 Support Race at National Championships

I just saw there is an A3 support race running on the day of the national championships. This is not a national championship.

This makes a positive change from last year when nothing ran, but does anyone know why the A3 national championship was dropped completely by Cycling Ireland?

IMO seems like they removed a positive event and thing to aim for. There probably are lots more A3s (and A4s hopeful of being an A3) as license holders than A2s/A1s?

Not everybody unfortunately has the ability to get to A2/A1 level, very few mere mortals actually!

It seems like a backwards step in not catering to most of your license holders with a national championship especially in the days of falling membership?

I done it a few years ago in NCW, great race and well run. Not sure it was anything other than a, opt for no other race and you can do it, not an official championship, it was always just ran at the same time. I was over the moon I hadn't picked M40 on my license as I would have died but I held in with the A3s. Hunted down at every breakaway attempt and then the last one went and I figured, they chased me down 6 times, they will chase this lad down but they didn't. Sat up at the end after a rider went straight into a cone we had previously passed 5 times.

This is a different type of race so M40 A3 can ride it so far as I can make out. It’s a support race on the National Road race card not the masters championship which is held this Sept in Castlebar.

The course i think it will be run on is savage & had a ball there last year but no result.

At least that’s what I’m hoping for anyway.

Damn it, last one I was at was on the same day as the Masters so the organisers made is A3 only, no Masters at all. Decisions to be made. have never ticked the M40 on my license as I simply would die in that race.

Tough circuit that
