    Mersk started this back in 2007 in response to lower demand. There wasn't enough freight to fill the ships at normal speed. But by slowing down they could keep the ships filled and drastically reduce fuel usage.

    Thing is when demand rises sharply it's back to full speed ahead until demand dips again.
