you’d be wrong about the €10s in Tallaght.

There was a claim that when they were hashing out what denominations to have, the Dutch asked for 25c and 2.50 coins - they had had those with guilder; the Italians asked for €1 and €2 notes and we asked for a €5 coin - we we going through £5 notes at an incredible pace and the new fiver was worth less than £4.

Feck knows if that's even vaguely true, but none of those happened.

Without assuming what you work at, the higher denomination notes at least used to be fairly common in trades here - most times I had a 100 here involved a trade and the only time I saw a genuine 200 was getting paid for a job I did for a specialist electrician; who had been paid it by one of his customers. Also got 100s off him a few times.

I would not be surprised if that German ATM would have given me a 200 if I'd taken out >=200 though.

I've never seen a genuine 500 used; I did see a customer of mine (in a different job) get stung with a fake 500; they gave 450 in genuine change for a 50 quid service and never saw the person again. Must not charge enough for my services!

Maybe they do, I’ve never seen them past first touch.

And YOU wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Maybe on second or third touch, but who cares about that? Not me, the person who’s making the money is FIRST touch.

And if you’re on the receiving end of FIRST touch, YOU don’t know and that’s a fact, you said as much yourself.

Anyone can tell a fake note after wear, you still couldn’t tell one that’s fresh. Fact.

You keep saying that but I know on first touch. There is a reason that they are passed in darkened busy pubs. There have been several cases only in the last few weeks of people getting cought passing fake notes.

Maybe someone who isn't familiar with cash, from the tap, tap generation wouldn't notice. I spot them a mile away. In 40 years working in a cash business I have refused them every time

Just another thought on the subject. Just think about the size of the atm's and how often they need restocking. Fill them with 50's and you can dispense 2 1/2 times more cash before refilling than if you fill them with 20's.

Wake me up when it's all over.

It's so annoying when you want to just pay for a beer. I tend to get 200 out at the beginning of each month because there's a lot of smaller shops that will only accept cash.
