Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tim Scott would offer some positivity to the ticket. So probably Vance to be shortsighted

Marco Rubio has a chance too.

Wonder how a black man with a phantom white girlfriend would go down with some potential voters?

Can Rubio as both registered in Florida?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,795 ✭✭✭Hande hoche!

As regards Rubio, from a bit of reading he could register in another state (some say Nevada). Even theoretically between the election and January's swearing-in, assuming he was on a winning ticket.

Black VP might help if the Democrats make a switch to Harris.

Given the rain of destruction Storm Shadow, Grom & GLSDB are raining on Sevastopol and wider Crimea? With any luck, he'll realise the 2014 border is where he needs to saunter off to.

In terms of who you're replying to. It was bad enough when Obama and indeed, Europe accepted Putin's land grab in 2014, letting him annex more territory, on the basis that the West won't actually enable Ukraine to have enough equipment to counterstrike fully?

Is appeasement, and even if one forgets the lesson of history regarding such folly? Surely might makes right is not the signal the West wants to send to China, Iran, N.Korea and other despotic regimes!

GOP and Positivity? Really? It'll likely be Burgum, no threat to CFTrump and will deeply kiss the ring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,795 ✭✭✭Hande hoche!

Compared to the other candidates, then yes. One of the most recent options was boasting about gunning down various animals including pets. Burgum strikes me as too bland and Pence like.

Bergum is a bit "Pence-y" but he lacks any hint of the vestigial spine that Pence discovered on January 6th.

He won't scare the "suburban ladies" but equally he will be utterly supine to Trump in all things.

Question on the VP candidates - If selected do they have to stand down from their current office to run?

Scott , Rubio, Vance and Bergum all hold office and none are up for re-election for those positions in November so if they are picked as Trumps VP running mate do they have to stand down in advance of the election or only if they were to win?

Usually only if they win. McCain and Obama were both sitting senators if I recall correctly, for instance.

Love works in mysterious and extremely convenient ways.

Cory Brooker in 2020, Tim Scott in 2024. The cycle will repeat itself in 2028.

"convictions for attempting to sell a U.S. Senate seat, shaking down the CEO of a children’s hospital for campaign cash and lying to the FBI".

The levels of corruption were almost a comedic height. If he was a character from a drama you would say it was overkill.

His pardoner keeps it relevant to the thread matter.

"Of the 38 people involved in the writing and editing of Project 2025, 31 of them were nominated to positions in Trump’s administration or transition team – meaning 81% of the document’s creators held formal roles in Trump’s presidency."

Is there a reason the media seems to be so quiet about Project 2025? Fox and co, I would expect but CNN appear to be keeping shtum as well.

Presumably its supposed to come over as 'yeah, good luck with that' kind of expression - it doesn't. Who does he think is going to believe his denials though? His base? OK, fine, they will believe anything, but is there any other grouping that would believe him? I wonder how many people, hearing his denial, would have any idea what Project 2025 is or would be interested enough to find out.

    Wish them luck?

Account now suspended, but no doubt there's likely thousands of bots on Twitter pushing anti-Biden & pro-Trump tweets.

The trump “coffee boy” strategy on project 2025 doesn’t work when you realise that of the 38 authors of it, 31 either worked in his administration or on his transition team. Once again trump is talking bollocks.

Oh and “I never talk about the physical” , expect when checks notes it’s about his own daughter.

You wonder is "Project 2025" finally the thing that makes it hard for Trump to balance placating the loons with not scaring the "less Loon" elements of the GOP voter base that he needs to vote for him?

His attempts to distance himself from Project 2025 are clearly because his advisers are telling him that the "suburban mom" et al voters are put off by it , but if he puts too much distance will that make the nutters think that he has gone all "deep state" ?

Trump doesn't do nuance or subtlety so he may struggle to manage this.

Trump challenging to debate Biden and have a round of golf with him as well to see who's the better golfer, trying to gaslight Biden [no joy] and the fanbase [possibly eating it up] while claiming Biden had ability problems at the last debate? Unless Trump's forgotten them [due to a lapse of memory] there are two more of the planned and agreed-on debates to go yet.

no benefit to Trump is going to those debates…… Just has to say he doesnt want to put Joe through that again as it wouldnt be fair and thats his out.

Why Biden would even think of playing trump at golf , given that trump is as honest as a mafia accountant when it comes to his golf score.

Michael Cohen is taking Trump and his AG [at the time] to SCOTUS asking the court to revive his case against Trump with a claim that Trump weaponized the DOJ against him, holding him in solitary confinement in prison violating his constitutional rights after Cohen revealed his plans to release a tell-all memoire.

“No president should ever be permitted to weaponize the Department of Justice through a willing and complicit attorney general, to have a citizen unconstitutionally remanded to prison, in my case, solitary confinement, because that person refuses to waive that First Amendment constitutional right,” Cohen told The Independent on Wednesday. “The actions of Donald J Trump and his administration are un-American, and I believe that this case is ripe for the Supreme Court of the United States to hear,” he said.

The language used by Cohen in his press release about Trump weaponizing the DOJ might tell against Cohen though, as Trump has linked Biden with such alleged actions but [EDIT] he has Trump winning another term in the back of his mind now…

Odd the media silence around Project2025 and Trump's name on Epstein's files. All news outlets are still focusing on Biden debate, CNN is so obviously far right now and the way it shows headlines is very FOX like

Trump's new anti abortion platform is fetal personhood

It would be both calamitous and stupid.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2024/07/10/gop-platform-nixes-abortion-ban-but-trump-could-outlaw-it-using-this-theory/

While nearly 20 states already have some form of fetal personhood law on the books, University of California Davis professor Mary Ziegler, who’s writing a book on fetal personhood, told The Guardian in March anti-abortion advocates want to get a case to the Supreme Court that would lead them to uphold the legal theory on a national scale—which could be easier with a Trump-led Justice Department.

Biden is holding a press meeting tonight in which he may take questions from the press on the issue of his presidency and his candidacy for re-election, if the word being spread by news sources about the meet is correct.

If it does finish with certainty about his staying or moving on, there's one thing for certain and that the age and competency standard to do the job will also apply to Trump as he used the issue to damage Biden's re-election chances.

The media have been publishing stories that Trump would "prefer" Biden to stay in the running over a fresh person taking his place as the Democrat candidate, supposedly as Trump is fearful of a younger more able opponent in the race. Trump cannot cry when the standard of fitness for office he demands for Biden is applied to him. Statements from him on his physical and mental health have to be proven beyond doubt given Trump's habit of lying and prevaricating in statements he issues regardless of whatever topic is he's rabbiting on about.

After the name-errors he made last night, Harris/Trump and Putin/Zelenskyy, at his specially prepared press conference where the press would be able to pick up on such like, I think its time for Biden to make the steps to step aside in the re-election race within the next two months and let another Democrat candidate take on Trump. Biden is still enough of a target for Trump to fantasize about [crooked joe] so the two months can be spent drawing Trump's fire and keep him in repetitive mode over Biden letting the Dems get ready to stiff Trump with a change in candidate. Nothing would be nicer to see than Trump blowing a gasket in public with a rant about "crooked joe" that'd put Bidens spoken errors in the 1-cent place.

Trump's denial of knowledge of the Heritage Foundation plan for his next administration seems to have been fake as the Salon magazine has come up with the words he spoke at an April 2022 meeting of the foundation. “They’re going to lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do,” Trump said of the Heritage Foundation and their efforts to – as they describe on the Project 2025 website – “pave the way” for Trump’s next administration.

I can see that there's been an apparent conflating of two separately authored sentences, spoken years apart, in the article where it has the words "Heritage Foundation" followed by the words "and their efforts to -" in order to show how Trump is still linked to the foundation.

An interesting comment on the attempt by Trump to distance himself publicly from the foundation plan is one made on Infowars on the 8 July by Alex Jones condemning the move by Trump to deny knowledge of the Heritage Foundation plan, with Jones saying Trump was guided to do so by the people running his re-election campaign.

How on earth did the USA manage to get to this 'perfect storm' situation? Removing any one of the contributing factors could reduce the damage to manageable, but all together it seems to be impossible.

The election of Trump combined with the corruption of the Republican party. The single minded greedy, self absorbed, pseudo-patriotic, pseudo religious, conservatism of the Republicans (fueled by social media) created the environment that meant the 'base' elected, then became a cult of, Trump, a situation that is so mind bogglingly stupid it will be analysed and studied for generations. There is no need to make things up about him, he damns himself out of his own mouth every time he speaks. Is it a mad coincidence that it happened in parallel with Boris Johnson's election in the UK?

Without Trump the Supreme Court could have struggled through more or less honourably, at least for the moment. Clarence Thomas has created a tangle which protects Trump, and could hold up the cases indefinitely, other than the 'mini-trial' that may just bring enough into the open (to do what? change minds? I doubt it), but the 'anything official cannot be used in evidence of unofficial acts' could stymie a lot of evidence.

Then the icing on the cake was the election of Joe Biden, a comparatively decent individual, with actual, and apparently successful, policies, but old and frail and past his best, too easy to assault and insult by an opposition that somehow does not feel even remotely obliged to be truthful and whose gift for projection is completely ignored.

    Its a conspiracy theory goldmine.

If Biden wins it could cause enough social unrest to destroy the country - Trump's base might be mostly elderly and not inclined to get physical, but there are plenty of people only waiting for an excuse to riot, and this would provide it. If Trump wins it will create a Taliban/North Korea monster of which Trump will only be the public face, it will be out of his control. I doubt he would see 80.
