6.9 the required run rate… should be straightforward, emphasis on ‘should’…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,799 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

Stirling is a bit of a liability these days, awful shot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

bit slow there by stirling. 9 from 17. 26/1 after 5.4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    and now balbirnie gone. 32/2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

and 41/3. need to develop a partnership here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,799 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

Tector gone, we are in serious trouble. O'Brien sounds devastated on comms

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

lucky there. surprised 3rd ump didn't run that through a bit further to see if glove caught up with the ball. the spinners having us for dinner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    this will be close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

run out. thats the build up of pressure, trying for a stupid single. 50/4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,821 ✭✭✭BionicRasher

Some poor running here last few overs.

This is a complete bottle job. World cup after world cup the batting disintegrates. Those performances against Pakistan look pointless now.

Still look forward to the same line up facing SA in Sept

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

FFS, things going tits up fast here

  • Registered Users Posts: 730 ✭✭✭wicorthered

Thank God Malan got the new contract....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Nightmare stuff this. Quality cricket all round by Canada to be fair. Theirs to lose now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    59/6. shocking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,765 ✭✭✭Shehal

    Minimal effort = minimal outcome

Ireland are getting exactly what they deserve so far.

    A RR of 4.75…Utterly embarrassing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

it seems like getting test status was pointless given our players can no longer play in england. a worthy sacrifice for playing a test like every 3 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,765 ✭✭✭Shehal

You got to laugh, they need a RR of 12 and they are just settling for 1s and 2s…at what point are they going too pull their finger out and realise that isnt going to be enough…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

if they can keep that up, which is highly unlikely.

121/6 with 17 needed off the last over.

This is going to be difficult

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Peter File

    Beaten by Canada.

    Embarassing performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,611 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Very frustrating to watch. USA will probably dismantle them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,765 ✭✭✭Shehal

That's a new low, the lot of them should be ashamed of themselves.

Until the last 3 overs they were just f**king around with 1s and 2s knowing very well they needed a lot more than that.

Got exactly what they deserved in the end and it would have been a travesty if they stole it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Rubbish game management, thick cricket.... needed boundaries big time and settling for one's and twos while the run rate going up at a rate of knots....

Well beaten by Canada, embarrassing..... not a bit of it down to bad luck just playing abysmal cricket...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,174 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

    Oh dear.

    100% agree

We should have stuck with ODI's and T20's.

We dont have the fanbase or cricket infrastructure to support test cricket.

We could be fighting Pakistan for the woodeñ spoon in this group

  • Registered Users Posts: 177 ✭✭whitelaurel

It also took us too long to get it, players retired or got too old

  • Registered Users Posts: 284 ✭✭nice bit of green

Well we did our bit to further light up the tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    so…

Canada beat us by 12 runs, and….

Only 4 out of our 9 batsmen that took the field got into double figures,

    Only 9 boundaries were hit over 20 overs by our batsmen. 😵 it’s T20 ! 😬

2 of our batsmen got out, caught and bowled.

I feel sorry for anyone supporting Ireland who paid money to go and watch that shïte…

  • Registered Users Posts: 730 ✭✭✭wicorthered

The only answer is a complete clear out after this debacle. Stirling is done, Balbirnie has never had a good T20 World cup, Tector is not a T20 player, Dockrell is too hit and miss and McCarthy and Young are too prone to 20 run overs. IPL superstar Josh Little has now bowled 8 overs at 79/0 on two bowling friendly pitches. He's massively overrated.

Yes results will be poor initially, but results are poor now anyway and this lot have proved time and time again they can't perform in world cups. Throw the kids in, they can't do worse and at least have scope to improve.

Tucker captain, Campher, Adair, and Delaney the spine, try new players around them.

New Zealand vs Afghanistan and at the toss looks like again a pretty miserable crowd… talking a couple of hundred…. ICC playing a blinder 👏🏼

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

dropped catches, messed up run outs, DRS coming to the rescue and Afghanistan are somehow no wickets down…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,330 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

some win for afghanistan over NZ overnight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

While not a shock that Afghanistan could beat New Zealand, winning by 84 runs wasnt expected. Afghanistan are dark horses no doubt about it. Pitches suit their attack and they have some really exciting batsmen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

For as good as Afghanistan were in both innings….NZ will look back and rue those missed chances.

Afghanistan play a particularly good brand of no fear cricket. A couple of their sixes actually left the ground.

They can probably get beaten by anyone but by the same token have the capability of beating absolutely anyone.

To get bowled out for 75 is really a low point for NZ. NZ’s 4th lowest T20 total since the inception of that format. Be really interesting to see if they can come back from that. I’d them picked as a dark horse for the title but I’m really reevaluating that. 😅 the New Zealand cricket press is unforgiving. Absolutely tearing the team a new one now across the 4 publications I just dipped into.

looking forward to Australia vs England later….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Afghanistan were excellent in the 50 over world cup. Had they taken the Maxwell chance they'd be in the semifinal. Probably too reliant on the two openers but that can be said of most teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

should be a good contest, temps around the 20° mark, low humidity and cloud free skies in NY.

Again though, looks like a pathetic attendance unfortunately…we’ll done ICC and indeed USA cricket, bidding for a tournament and they can’t put bums on seats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

forget what I said about a good contest. SA all over the Dutch.

Dutch 3 down and only 23 runs on the board, that’s after 7 overs. Dutch keen to attack the odd bad delivery but they look like they are struggling big time against the better deliveries of which there are plenty. This could be quite a hammering for them.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,821 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

SA now 3-3 chasing only 104, amazing stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Jos Buttler bowls Will Jacks in the second over. Goes for 22. Literally bowling rubbish.

    Australia destroying England here.

Really bad captaincy, no way would this naivety have been prevalent under previous captains.

As I type, the pitch does for Warner, ball just doesn’t bounce 😏

    70/1, from 5 overs 🤦🏻‍♂️

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,821 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

Such a pity Netherlands couldn't win that game in the end.

They just didn't have enough runs to defend to really keep the pressure on once the SA batters decided to be conservative. It was kinda like the Ireland Canada game but there Canada had those extra runs that forced Ireland to start playing big shots towards the final overs and getting out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

ball hits Matthew Wades bicep , nowhere near the bat, multiple inches away, finger goes up, 🤪

huge over from England, 19 from it 😶

England up with the required now….worrying for Australia.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

last 3 overs, England just went too conservative, gonna lose barring a miracle…. England need to just GO…

Wait, they are going.. 12 off 2 deliveries. 20 from the over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Easy win for Australia, always handy when you have a good powerplay and then they had Chris Jordan who came on to execute his skills and had figures of 4-0-44-2. 100 wickets in T20 internationals and him dancing around with the score on 201 sums it up. About 75 of them wickets were caught on the boundary after nearly going for 6. Not a word said against him by Nasser and the Sky mates. Isn't he a wonderful athlete. Brilliant in the field. Expert at the death. Same tripe every day. If Scotland keep winning, England are cooked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭Gillespy

England look like they're back to the pre Captain Morgan days. Mott and Buttler are fortunate to be still in a job after that pathetic world cup defence in India.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,947 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

sixes being hit out of the ground and over the pavilion and other stands by Powell & co.

Uganda not at the races. Misfields a plenty, really average ( I’m being kind ) bowling, their bowlers being taken to the cleaners.

so, West Indies beat Uganda in a World Cup T20 by 134 runs.

Uganda were bowled out for 39, in just 12 overs.

Hmmmmmm, bit of a pointless contest…..but ‘inclusively’ it’s the modern fetish these days so…👀

I’d be mighty pīssed off if I was a WI player and picked up an injury in what was a pointless contest. As a cricket fan too I’d be a bit disappointed if I wasn’t offered at least a partial refund…

club teams here would put up a better performance than Uganda…
