"Recruits" TV show from 1990s.

I see this show from 1994 has re-appeared on social media in the last week. Brought back some nostalgia for me. As a Student Garda of 1994, it was available to view on VCR in the Library in Templemore.

For you youngsters, it follows a selection of Student Gardai from their entry into training in Templemore in 1992, through to their passing out in 1994, and covers the 5 phases of training, broadly along the way. I would have joined not long after these people passed out, trained with the brother of one, and worked with another.

Gas thing is, most of these young gardai depicted have already reached retirement. Some are still serving because they now hold senior appointments. Its a snapshot of a very different Ireland, where gardai and army stood at border crossing points all day, and the Dublin Docklands were far from the gentrified theatres, Hotels, bars, diners and office blocks we have today.

Where female members wore skirts as part of the uniform. The only people who had Hi Viz were those in a patrol car. Mobile phones were still scarce and unreliable. PC use in Garda Stations was minimal, and usually only in District HQs, and that wasn't really a PC, as we know them today, more like a monitor working from the cloud.
