Miele Washing Machine not draining properly

I have an 11 year old Miele washing machine (Ed 111 W3164). It has done an enormous amount of work over the past 11 years and still washes perfectly. The only problem is it won’t spin and drain anymore. The pump works perfectly in that when the wash cycle finishes it pumps out all the water (I can see this in the drain pipe the machine is connected to) but as soon as it starts spinning the water stops draining and the spin cycle doesn’t go up to a high speed. If I then open the drain filter the water starts releasing and the spin goes up to the higher speed. Baffled. Any suggestions?

Happened to my own. Small pipes get clogged with gunk.

Model may have 2 motors, if so one is cooked!

Mieles from 11 years ago definitely do not have two motors. It’s actually likely to be a brushless motor, which isn’t very likely to fail in those machines.

Major faults will also give you an error code or sequence of flashing lights on the older machines. It sounds more like something might be blocking the pump.Check the filter and drain hose. Miele filters are just really a coin trap to prevent large items entering the pump. Check the point where the water enters the filter too - could be a coin in it. (Make sure the machine is unplugged you doing want to catch your fingers in the pump !)

The only other thing that might cause that is a lot of foam in the drum. If you’re using a different detergent than usual maybe just check it’s not over foaming. Run it though a 90C cycle (select short and water plus) without any load or detergent to give it a very thorough flush out.

Beyond that you’d have to call Miele..
