DPF light came on and my mechanic did a regen. Engine light and dpf light came on two weeks later. Doing long journeys most days but only bought the jeep six months ago, 2018 model. Should I map it out? Heard you can fail the doe or nct by doing this. Any guidance welcome.

Forced regens won't fix the problem if something like a DPF pressure sensor or glow plugs are causing the DPF to fail regens it'll just keep getting blocked. Need to find the underlying issue, fix it, then maybe do a Regen.

You can get it mapped out but make sure you get it done right, by a reputable company or you'll have more issues afterwards. Ecu needs to be programmed to tell it to forget about DPF regens.

Won't fail NCT if done right, mine passed in February this year, DPF deleted last summer.

I'm in a similar boat. Is it enough to just get the software remap to not use the DPF?
Some places hollow out or physically remove the DPF but what if that is not done...
I expect there might be a small performance hit with leaving it physically in but I don't know much about them to be honest.

If you tell the ECU to not perform regens and the filter is physically still in place, it'll just block very soon. Because regens burn off excess soot on the filter, without that process the DPF would be a one time use item.

Software maps and DPF delete needs to be done together, and usually software for EGR delete, which is just software by means of telling the valve to stay closed in all circumstances.

But a software only job is okay? No need to physically hollow out the DPF in your engine?

No it isn't. The DPF will block easily if there's no Regen taking place to burn off the excess soot. As diesel fuel combusts it creates soot as a byproduct there's no preventing that.

DPF has to be hollowed out as part of the process, I don't know why any place would only do software they should know that won't work.

No. You can do an EGR delete with software only but a DPF needs to be removed or hollowed out. Or a big hole drilled in it at the very least to allow air flow.

Personally if fresh enough vehicle I wouldn't do it definitely devalue vehicle see 171 mini Black smoke went moving in slow traffic car unsellable in my eyes

DPF/EGR remaps don’t cause black smoke. That car had another issue entirely

That obvious but he listened to bad advice got dpf removed but still has engine problems ie Cured the symptom but not the cause why it was blocking now has completely unsellable very clean 2017 mini car that still need more money spent on it injectors ect . Now if took it to garage that knew what there was doing would have Diagnosed bad injectors ect Replace them got dpf cleaned out and would have perfect car now instead a complete piece of rubbish . My advice for owner of L200 is take to different garage as too new for that messing might be cheap enough fix as garage you took vehicle already is waste of time thay haven't a clue what there doing

Thanks for all the advice lads. I took the L200 to another garage late this afternoon. It was late so need to bring it back into them, but they mentioned the dpf needs to taken out & fully cleanned. Think I'll do this first and bring it back to them to check the injectors and sensors etc.

A clean is a good start, your mechanic will need to find the cause though, as it sounds like it might get blocked again.

I’d a diesel outlander for a while, think it’s the same or similar engine. Turned out to be an intercooler hose causing me regular DPF issues. Front of engine and should be easy to find a split. Looking around the engine bay the hoses were all looking a bit the worse for wear in it anyway. It might not actually be a dpf issue.

It's good you're getting it fixed.

Dont delete it, if you do, you're no better than someone who burns electrical cable for the copper, or who fly tips to save a few pound.

The DPF is clogged with ash and needs replacing. No amount of in car regening or cleaning will recover it.

Its illegal to remove the DPF and if you do so and it starts puffing smoke you could be in trouble.

In the same boat with my Lancer, not cost effective to replace the DPF as it would require dropping the engine. Cars a write off.

Never buying a diesel with DPF again.

Once it goes into limp mode you need to use a high spec computer to tell the ECG that you have replaced the DPF and then force a regen straight away. Never turn off the engine if you suspect that it has gone into DPF clean mode and hadn't completed. You can tell because the turbo will have the dump valve open most of the time and it will make a characteristic woosh sound on deceleration. After a number of regens it will show a oil level to high error on the dash which again needs to be cleared with a specialist computer. It assumes that every regen will dilute and raise the oil level (which it does). Keep a check on your oil level and if it rises to high drain off oil and top up with fresh oil.

Once it gets to this stage only a new DPF or an oven bake of the old DPF at a specialists will save your car. A DPF has a service life of around 170k-200k miles so if your DPF is getting to that milage then it likely shot.

Give look on dpf doctor website and see if any garage any bit near you. Plus try not drive it too much as back pressure from blocking dpf can damage your turbo.

Carrick on Shannon has A DPF doctor operating out of the CVRT test centre.

L200 notorious at this stage for DPF problems. Be careful because I know someone who recently had light come on, only once, that caused a huge oil pressure problem with the turbo, ended up blowing the engine resulting in a trip to the UK for new engine
