Does anyone know how a patio electric awning should be connected to the house electricity supply?

Hi, I'm not an electrician but probably as a fused spur off the main ring. You'd probably want to RCBO that circuit so that you have earth leakage protection separately from the overall house RCD (if not already completed).

  • If it's just a motorised awning, they draw less than 3 amps usually and are designed with continental wiring in mind, which usually means they have a power supply that's mounted inside, which is designed to be plugged in.

They're usually connected with a fused connection unit here. Or, they may need a socket installed somewhere near the window if it's powered by a plug-in transfomer. However, what you can connect to existing wiring depends on the design and state of the wiring. You'd really need to get an electrician to look at it. It's a very minor job though.

If it's a heated awning you will probably need to run a dedicated circuit.
