Absolutely gripping drama. Acted supremely with a storyline that brings you on an emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Also great music in the background.

+1 !! Loved it - Superb series. I watched it old style of a week night when they started showing it on RTE years ago ; think it made it more enjoyable !!

Great show. Told its story well. Arrived before the binge watching/"content" era started to saturate the TV market. Didn't have a huge following on here, but we were loyal to it.

It was shown late night mid week on RTE I think when it first aired. One of the best shows of its type, would have been great to have had one more season but in saying that it ended so well.

Have to concur, it was excellent. Unexpected twists and details that the viewer could not expect. Very good writing and attention to historical facts, fashion, technology, etc

Would definitely recommend Deutschland 83 for anybody that liked The Americans.

Not to take off topic but I read a book called “1983 The World at the Brink” and Deutschland 83 actually touches on a few of the points discussed in the book such as the paranoia developing within the leadership of the Eastern Bloc and how the Western leaders at the time did not realise that some of the language they were using in reference to the Soviet Union was partly driving this paranoia, fascinating read.

Spoiler Warning

Only complaint about it is that it ends too soon, as in the years the show is set in. Felt there could have been a lot of material to work with if the characters had to deal with the fall of the USSR, given all they had sacrificed.

Acting in the show is superb. Kerry Russell is amazing, also really enjoyed her in the new Netflix show, the Diplomat.

They could have done a follow up with the Jennings fiddling their way into oligarchy after the fall of the Soviet Union and visiting their relatives in the US on their super-yacht to see how they were doing.
