What is it with people putting L plates on the sides of their cars now?

    Oh. Maybe it's how things are done in some Indian regions?

    Although Wikipedia (which is never wrong) doesn't confirm:

    "All new drivers in India, upon receipt of a provisional licence, must display L plates at all times (usually on the front and rear of the vehicle) and be accompanied by another driver who has held a full and valid licence for the type of vehicle being driven and also be in a position to control the vehicle."

    Key word there is "Usually", it appears from the wording they are free to put them anywhere so long as they're clearly visible. One would hope they have the caveat that they can't obstruct the drivers view also, shouldn't have to be in the law but we all know someone who needs that provision.
