    Hi all

Looking at the idea of setting up an organic suckler cow farm, I have 33 acres , using Aberdeen Angus as the breed, sell weanling at 8/ 9months, just wondering how many cows and calves I would be able to have on that amount of land , and to be able to cut silage also, may look at buying in some of the winter feed to avail of more grazing for the first year or two

Suggestion and opinions welcome not criticism

If you do all AI and no bull 10 cows? (maybe less in organic?) Have to watch for getting locked up with TB

Depends on lots of things. But 10 cows n followers (ie 10 calfs to weanlings) would be about your lot to start with and see.

Minimum of 5 bales, preferably 7 for each cow. Depends on what land is like. It will be a tidy operation. No extra costs, incl buying in fodder. Take as many bales as you can this year, even if you haven't the stock this year. They'll keep if you give them extra wrapping.

Stretch the grazing season as much as possible. Rotate grazing, do not set stock.
