Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

dies anyone know if a 2009 Honda Accord 2,2l will run on HVO?

I’m thinking of running it on HVO to help it pass the emisssions for the NCT

It wont like it at all unfortunately and there is no emissions test for a diesel just a smoke test which is easy to pass unless there is something very wrong

It will have some benefits but you'd be better off starting with a blend to see how the engine runs on it. Even Euro 4 engines such as yours can see reductions in exhaust pollutants (a small sample admittedly):

That said, I wouldn't go changing too much before an NCT. Run a diesel injector cleaner (like STP etc) in a tank of fuel, give the car a good run and arrive at the NCT with a hot engine. The usual stuff. A 25% mix of HVO with standard diesel will do no harm and give some benefits but don't put too many things in the tank at once. As mk7r says, the test isn't that strict and a well maintained car should have no problems passing it without anything other than the usual prep.

there’s a problem with the glow plugs and the mechanic is afraid to change them as he’ll think they’ll break as they aren’t shifting.

So when it’s starting cold there’s a bit of white smoke

There's an NCTS OBD check for fault codes so you'd need to be sure that there's nothing showing there

Nct won't be starting it from cold. So should be fine . With engine hot 🔥 rev it to max if there almost no black smoke should be ok

They started testing HVO back in 2000, on regular engines.

Your car will run on it, however, it's not a miracle cure, just like dipetane isn't a cure all.

If you want to pass the NCT, get your car fixed.

Heater plugs will make no difference to the outcome of the NCT test, Honda diesel fuel filters are very fussy about the fuel that goes through them and may not work properly with HVO if the viscosity differs from regular diesel.

White smoke could also be the EGR pipe - metal corrugated one off the EGR valve - they are known to snap. There was a recall on them for them breaking and one of the symptoms was white smoke on a cold start up - is there a smell of diesel fumes inside the car? Thats another symptom.

Glow plugs usually dont get stuck in Accords - just heat the engine up to temp and they should come out easily.
