Painting exterior of house

Right so I'm going to paint the exterior of the house myself so as to save a few pound. Any tips? Dos or don'ts?

It's a standard 1950s end of terrace 3 bed house I'll only be painting the front and side for now as an extension on the back still needs plastering finished. How much paint will I need? From reading around it seems maybe 20 litres will do it.

Any recommendations for paint also. Think we're going with a nice cottagey type of green. Painting over a magnolia/cream colour.

Will be painting the garden walls as well. There's a lot of old flaky paint on them and it looks terrible would a blast of a power washer be sufficient?

Your going to need one of these, pay the few pounds extra you’ll find loads of uses for it

I like to brush, I know that a roller would be quicker, but for me I’m up closer and can see the missed bits

time spent masking up is time well spent

a few good podcasts, you’re doing it in your own time doesn’t have to be wrapped up in one day or two

Your doing it for yourself, take before and after pictures and rejoice in your deeds

spray it, don’t do it on a windy day. Get the neighbours to move their cars

I've been thinking about spraying it alright. Is it handy enough for an amateur?

Pebble Pebbledash of that vintage is not meant to be painted afaik. Was it painted before? If not, I'd think twice before painting it.
