Absolute cracker of a try from Rio Dyer.

This has been a really enjoyable game of rugby. Big last 10 mins now.

Wales hit back immediately. A blocked down kick in the Australia 22 and poor tackling from Oz backs for a Dyer try.

Great touchline conversion for Costelow too.

Converted try will win it for Wales.

I just read that Georgia have defeated Japan. Fair play

That's the best I've seen Wales play in about a year. Their forwards showed up and were very gritty in contact. Put some nice attacking phases on as well. That pack led toughness is something to build upon. Against Ireland in the six nations they were bullied. But they've grown and improved.

But defensively they're very poor. That's two weeks in a row where Australia have scored length of the field trys and it's mostly down to poor defensive positioning. They're also so ill disciplined. They scored two trys and immediately from the restart they conceded penalties in front of the posts, either for holding on or for sealing off. What should have been a 14-0 swing anded being 14-6 and kept them just that bit too far away from Australia.

Also, despite some nice handling I still think they're awful in attack. There's little in the way of linking passes or forwards and backs interchanging positions to dummy defences.

Wales have not won a match since October 2023 when they beat Georgia in the World Cup. By the time they play their next game it will have been 13 months since their last test victory. They're in an awful state.

    Correction to my earlier post

South Africa v Ireland is on Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Action (pre game from 3:30pm, KO 4pm).

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭Shehal

Exactly, Ireland playing their worst rugby in 2 years and France in disarray they might stand a chance, against Ireland and France at their best they lose 8 times out of 10 at least.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭Shehal

"Ireland will probably have lost 3 of their last 4 games by this evening" LOOOOL

If you think after these 2 games that England are anywhere near Ireland you're off you're wagon!!!

Ireland are in transition but are still competitive, that's the difference. Ireland bring in young players and still win, England bring in young players and lose 4 out of 5.

There fact England can lose so many games and you defend them just sums up why they arent at Ireland's level.

it’s like something from the 1980s here with the feed from Argentina cutting out every few minutes and Sky desperately trying to fill the airtime

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,128 ✭✭✭OldRio

It was desperate. Unfortunately not the first time this has happened in Argentina

SA team vs Portugal this coming saturday:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 269 ✭✭FtD v2

Much stronger side for Portugal than I expected tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,843 ✭✭✭Jacovs

Me too. Yet, only 4 players in this 23 man squad was in the 23 man squad from the past weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 269 ✭✭FtD v2

Yeah, I get that, and there are a lot of young guys in this selection (Wessels, Roos, Venter x2, Louw, Horn and Sacha F-M), but still kind of baffled what he wants to see here from 33-year-old Mapimpi, 34-year old Reinach and 35-year old Nyakane for example. Maybe it's simply a case of letting them build some match fitness ahead of the Rugby Championship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,843 ✭✭✭Jacovs

Think its like you say, bit of match fitness for his short term plans. But also maybe keep some experience in the squad for the new guys to learn from.

Sky coverage of Queensland v Wales appears to have been pulled - may or may not be related to global IT issues happening.

not the only thing pulled… :D

there must have been some backlash against the appointment of cory hill as captain.

Sky did eventually join the game in the 33rd minute, Wales currently leading 24-14 at half time. This one’s strictly a feed from host broadcaster Stan.

Portugal have made a cracking start against the Boks. They play some lovely rugby.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,759 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

South Africa red carded as well

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,140 ✭✭✭fitz

Boks muscling their way into the lead. Portugal are skillful, but they're always going to struggle with these levels of physicality/power.

You can easily forget how obscenely large Tier 1 players are 'til you see them matched up against teams from Tier 2 & their more "standard" levels of strength; it's the most obvious, visual demonstration of the gulf between teams.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,759 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Every attack now is a try

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,140 ✭✭✭fitz

100% this. Boks just monstering the collisions here, and keep scoring as a result.
