2FM is now seeking expressions of interest in presenting roles. A longlist will be prepared and when vacancies arise shortlisting will take place. Posted on RTE website 02/07/2024.

I'm sure this is the first time this has happened in 2FM's 45 year history. It was always unclear how presenters were recruited to the station. A move in the right direction. Sadly 2FM is nothing like it used to be. (I wonder will Lottie apply, couldn't resist asking 😜)

Hilarious! The demos will be flying in for this one. Every radio head on every shift from drive to weekend nights will be applying for this one. No matter how rudderless, its still 2FM and the pinnacle of what presenters want to reach for. (believe it or not)

Nope. Lottie Ryan will stay there until her career is over, absolutely guaranteed. A better example of a nepo baby couldn't be found. Only got the job because of her last name and the bosses know they can throw absolutely ANY job or slot at her, from 3am showbiz to washing windows, and she will do whatever they ask.

not sure why there's hate for Lottie on here - she is certainly not the first RTE presenter to have family connections !!

Just look at her uncle Mike (Gerry's brother) still works in RTE Radio and has done since around 1988 (a former 2FM overnights presenter / daytime desk driver). Has since worked producing and programming their radio playout systems.

So they’re looking for “yellow pack” presenters now I’d bet - greatly reduced salaries, or wage as it will be called - little perks, total control over what you can or can’t do in terms of other employment- greatly reduced long term benefits like pension etc - no guarantee of longevity in the role and certainly not a job for life.

What do you want? Public service broadcasting taking millions off the taxpayer every year with limited results or a lean machine with radio professionals working for industry standard money and the station making money?

As most people are aware, 2fm hasn't made a profit since 2008 and has required a multi million euro licence fee subvention every year since 2011. Compared to the rival pop stations in the independent sector, it's extremely bloated. People around here are obsessed with the need for Lotties job but what about Cormac Battle ? Have you heard him on the Jennifer zamparelli/Laura Fox show? He seems to come in for a chat every other day about popular culture etc, this is a man who has been on the payroll of station for almost 25 years, what exactly is his job title now? What is the logic of Dan Hegarty's one hour show? What does Hegarty do in RTE when he's finished recording his links?

And they managed to do it by paying buttons with young people that actually wanted to be on air. Most especially they gave their audience exactly what they wanted and that audience has grown up and stayed with them.

2FM should've been run on a commercial.basis years ago. They don't serve any public broadcasting remit

Beta Da Silva got the drivetime slot. I’m not a regular listener, but I do like The New Music Show on 2FM when I catch it. Promising that it will be heavily music orientated as opposed to just banter. Different direction for sure. Best of luck to the chap.

Have we any way to gauge of how long this process will take?

Radio Land have claimed over 200 people applied so far but I don’t know where they got that figure from. I would be interested in knowing how many of those applicants have commercial radio experience and how many are either influencers or students/on community radio.

I could probably only name 10-15 presenters who I think are right for the 15-34 audience. What Dan Healy would think of them is another thing.

I would assume applications only need to be open for two weeks maximum. We don’t even know how many jobs they have going. Is Laura Fox’s old weekend show going to be one of the roles they fill using this system for example, or is it just full-time jobs? A bit of clarity would be great.

Talk to any PD in any radio station in the country and they will all say the same thing and that is staff retention. From sales to news and most especially on-air.

Voice tracking has become popular not just because its a cost cutting exercise but the suitable talent is just not there. So many got out of the business when they saw that it wasn't possible to live on €26k a year and try and get a mortgage, have a family etc. Those who work weekends/cover/swing will be getting in the region of €80-€110 per shift.

The memory is a bit fuzzy but I think I was told a figure of €200 about 10 years ago for the shift rate in 2FM but I am open to correction!
