How would a person find out the result of a Supreme Court hearing? Specifically from 4th of July just gone. It was DPP v O'Flaherty and I think the case number is 159/2023.

That is the high court judgement from 2023. The state appealed to the Supreme Court, and the hearing was listed for last Thursday 4th of July. There was a judgement in another case that day, and the results of that are available online. But nothing on the case I am interested in.

If the hearing was on 4 July, it's unlikely that there is a result yet. The usual form is that, after the hearing, the judges take time to consider the arguments made and to discuss among themselves to see to what extent they can arrive at a common view and an agreed judgment. One (or more) of the judges will then draft a judgment which will be circulated to the others for comment and refined until a majority or all of the judges can assent to it. If the view is not a unanimous one, dissenting judges will write one or more dissenting judgments. One or more of the judges who assent to the majority view may also write a separate, assenting judgment setting out their own reason for the view they have taken.

As you can imagine, this process takes time. It is common for weeks or months to pass between the hearing and the delivery of the judgment. When the judgment is given, it will appear online, usually the same day.
