24 Months In Uk (VRT Exempt Or Not)

Hi,

My sister has been living in the UK for the last 7 years. She is planning on moving home to Ireland in the next 2 years.

She wants to change her car in the UK now. Am I right in saying that she will be able to bring that car home to Ireland VRT except, or will she still need to pay VAT and import duty?

I know you mention move in the next 2 years, but just incase, make sure she owns the car 6 months before moving - that is the rule on getting the exemption.

I think there's a mileage limit as well. Could be confusing this with something else, but worth checking.

Don't see that here for coming from outside the EU. It's there for coming from inside the EU alright. Also worth noting the continuous residence of 12 months requirement.

Coming from UK is outside the EU so vat would potentially be due. And I don't think there is an exception for the vat for transfer of residence. The exemption is for vrt.

Maybe read that link I posted? Your link is for vehicles being imported, the op is talking about moving permanently back to Ireland with your personal car.
