Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Saab 93 TTiD - DPF Issues

Starting to have issues with the DPF, car going into limp mode fairly regularly and OB2 reader is stating it's the DPF.

Just wondering is it worth replacing the DPF with a new part or is it time to start thinking about changing the car? Any rough idea how much labour would cost to replace? I've checked eBay and can seemingly get a new DPF for about €300.

There's around 225,000km on the clock and just passed the NCT recently.

First of all I wouldn't write the car off just yet or start buying random parts because a generic code reader says it's the DPF. It could well be the DPF but it could also a faulty sensor or the DPF is blocked that needs to be removed and cleaned.

I think getting it properly diagnosed is the first port of call.

Any Z19DT/Z19DTH/Z19DTR (GM 1.9 diesel) engined vehicle like your Saab is absolutely worth saving, that is if it is free from rust underneath.

They are dead reliable engines, one of the last great lines of diesel engines without emissions nonsense like AdBlue. Get DPF/whatever is wrong, within reason, sorted and keep her going would be the best decision. 300 euro would be a steal for this.

They can go up to and beyond 400,000km when minded. Mine was getting close but subframe and wing rust killed it, made it impractical to repair…

Agreed. It could be anything causing the DPF to block up. Fail to properly diagnose the issue and the new DPF could be blocked again in a few months

Remove it and remap the car……………. I'll probably be shot down by all the Eamon Ryan supporters.

Take your significant other for a dirty weekend somewhere a few hundred kilometres away and let the DPF clean itself out on the trip there.

Well I’d usually investigate the problem before removing it and if it’s anything more than a couple of hundred euro I would just remove & remap. I wouldn’t bother with a replacement

The usual suspects will be here any moment now to tell us how bad and illegal it is😂
